So stupid question: After depressing the cruise button, which turns on the cruise control that is reflected by that light, did you also pull the lever downward setting the cruise control speed?

I may not be understanding your question correctly, but I depressed the button while on the highway, light comes on, the cruise never picked up, the seconds later the light goes out, and I got nothing. I have tried everything to get it back on that I can think of.

Have you checked all your lights to make sure they are working? Brake/tails especially.

Had numerous vehicles that the cruise wouldn't work on if their was a tail/brakelight out.

I second the clock spring. I even replaced the cruise control lever before I even knew a clock spring existed. Aftermarkets are less than $30; OEM upwards to $300. The aftermarkets have a very spotty record; many cause issues with the airbag controls, rendering the airbag un-usable.

Likely the spiral cable, you need to meter voltage at the column to see if anything is sending.

check your brake light switch under the dash for adjustment. IF it getting a pulse from the brake pedal bouncing around it shuts off.
