I don't really have any clue but have you looked in your owner's manual for anything about this?

have them try to read it with a scanner, it could be anything from a loose wire to just the bulb going out

Does your speedometer still read correctly?
Do the tailights light up when the brake pedal is depressed?
Do the tailights turn off when the brake pedal is at rest?

One of these should be the problem. If not then you need to get access to a scanner and give us a Diagnostic Code so we can help you.

So you engage it but it but doesn't work?

Mine does the same thing, but later i figured out that mine doesn't come with cruise control. Which I think is total bs.

Here's a link to the DIY for CC

When I first got my truck and tried to use the cruise for the first time or two, the light would go on but I could not get it to engage. Turned out it was the sequence of moves I was doing with the switch arm which did not allow it to engage. All I did was go back to the manual and re read the cruise control procedure and its worked ever since! :D;)

I am betting you have a bad brake light switch. Check to see if your brake lights work when the pedal is depressed.

My 2008 Prerunner's CC is doing the same thing. Everthing else mentioned above is operating correctly. Other than my radio does periodically come on by itself and change stations when on.

    Your right!!
I put my left foot under my brake pedal and lifted it and my CC would engage and immediately disengage when I realesed the brake.ASAP I'm going to check to see if I can adjust tension on the switch plunger
