I didn't read through the whole thread, so apologies if this was already mentioned. I've found a massive difference when I use cruise control in S mode with ECT on. For years I didn't touch the cruise control because it drove me crazy. I just recently was experimenting and found this combination is so much better. Take it with a grain of salt because I also have a lot more weight, bigger tires, and 5.29 gears, but I can actually use cruise control again at ~75 mph.

Hmmm, I guess to my engineering brain, when the clutch is pushed in the vehicle will start to slow and the engine needs to put out more power to keep the vehicle moving at the set speed. I had one car, an Audi I think, where if I pushed the clutch pedal in like 1-2mm, the engine would immediately start revving; any further than that and the CC would disengage. All of the rest of my cars the disengagement would happen even before the clutch disk would allow any slippage.

Are you stock? If not, what do you have for wheels, tires and lift?

I use cruise nearly everywhere. This is so that I can ensure I'm am a rock steady consistent driver. One of the worst things are the folks who are inconsistent in their speed, even by only a few mph, that is even worst if they are the kind who speed up or slow down unknowingly when folks are moving past them or they are passing (highway). Speeding up or slowing down on hills is just as bad, it may save a bit of gas for the driver but it screws that up for anyone else behind them.

The other reason I use it is so I can focus more on traffic around me. I know my speed is managed so now my attention is on who is in front of me, who is behind me, who will I be passing, who will be passing me, am I going to want to be in a space at the same time someone else wants to be in that space?

Aside from traffic screwing hypermiling everyone I have been with gets better fuel economy using cruise.

The cruise control in these trucks sucks period. I've got a 2022 with the latest KDMax tune and cruise (ACC or regular) just sucks. I'm in Florida so the largest hill I see is an overpass. It will not go aver an overpass without downshifting at least one gear and most often two. Sometimes it will shift back to 6th on the downhill sometimes not. Downshifts with a headwind. S5 seems to be the least frustrating for me. The loaner I've been driving for the last 20 days does the same thing and it was completely stock so it's not the lift, tires/wheels.

Tuning doesn't solve this. Speaking from experience. It helps, but the truck still LOVES to downshift and rev up at at slightest incline

People always say, wtf do you mean it's not a truck engine, this is because truck engines have low end torque, which these engines have none of, so mini van. It has to shift to make any power at all, so yeah again, mini van. Nice soccer Mom engine Toyota..... :crapstorm:

Truth. There's a reason the 4.0L second gen owners don't have this issue.
However, the Sienna can haul ass without obnoxious revving and shifting. It's purely in the way the truck is tuned and geared from the factory. I have yet to do gears, but that's my next major mod. Most people avoid it because it's not a mod you can see, but from everyone I've talked to it makes a huge difference in drivability, especially when combined with a tune.

Truck engine lol. Look up the engine specs for any 60s through 90s half ton. Ford 300 six was a truck engine, they are good engines but giant dogs when it comes to horsepower and torque. Most "truck engines" historically are low compression, low rpm, low horsepower dogs. This 3.5 is a rocket comparatively. It is the trans programming that is retarded, not the engine.

I love the adaptive cruise control. BUT here in MT the roads aren’t that crowded. Is your drive route crowded such that the adaptive is adjusting all the time? Speed limits 80 here on the interstate. Yeah it’s slow to get back into the correct gear but not a deal breaker. AT and not tuned with 235/85 16 skinnies. On two lanes it is great.

Ummm, I still have a Ford F-150 with the 4.9 liter I6 and it has quite a bit of low RPM torque, and by that I mean 260 lb-ft at a lazy 2,000 RPMs; by contrast the 2GR-FKS in the Tacoma only beats the old Ford by 5 lb-ft at 4,600 RPMs. I would say the Ford engine is anything but a dog from the torque perspective. Yes, it only puts out 150 horsepower so it certainly isn't a speed demon, but it tows heavy loads so well you barely even feel a trailer behind the vehicle.
