    Hi Taco World,

I have a 2021 Auto. Yesterday was the first time I used cruise control. I was traveling around 75mph. I found on ANY hill, the truck downshifts and the RPMs skyrocket to over 3k. No matter how slight the grade, the truck acted this way.

If I'm not using cruise control, I can modulate the throttle to prevent this from happening. Which is part of the reason I never noticed this erratic behavior.

Does this happen to everyone? Or is something a miss with my trucks software?

Cruise control sucks on these trucks unless you like rpm!! This is normal sad to say. I don’t use cruise and I’m much happier that way

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if there are any fixes out there?

I don’t know unless “ov tune” helps with this and the remapping of the ecu to help these trucks get out of there own way...

Some say ov tune is the way to go.... i towed my 5x8 trailer home tonight filled with 7ft logs... I used the “turbo” mode all the way home which was about 20 miles. Drove like a different truck. It’s rare I push that button but when you do it’s like... why do I have to push this to make this truck drive almost normal... o_O

Oh good call. I'll definitely try it with ECT on, I didn't think of that. I've considered getting one of those ECT always on modules so I don't have to push it all the time.

I like the cruise control just fine, just get use to it and you won’t even notice it. I pull my car hauler in S4 ECT and cruise control on. My wife’s Lexus does the same thing. The high RPM is not hurting anything. If it bothers you cruise in S5 or S4. You have a six speed transmission with 5 and 6 being over drive.
Be thankful you don’t have a Dodge Ram or GM truck with a 10 gear transmission.

75mph on the highway going uphill 3k RPM sounds about right. These engines are designed to rev to make power.

If you want to go uphill that fast at 1500 RPM you you need to buy a diesel. A tune or a regear is not the answer.
