Took my 1st long trip this week in the 23 Tacoma. Wonderful .. however the cruise control was a major annoyance / distraction .. constantly taking up the entire center display with notifications of a car in front of me or no longer in front of me.

On my other vehicles ... this was just a small thumbnail .. but on the Tacoma it takes the up the entire window and stays for a LONG time. You can press the return button to get rid of it and I must have 100 times on a 500 mile trip! I don't see anything in the documentation about shortening the time or turning off the notification all together. Contrary to what Toyota apparently thinks .. I can SEE the vehicle in front of me when it's there and when it's not! Has anyone figured out how to disable or only keep up for a couple of seconds?

And NO it's not Friday and the correct answer it not to just use the regular cruise control or the fact that we have too much technology and my 53 Chevy didn't have this problem and worked just fine. :)

To know what isn't the right answer you have to know what is.

In this case use your warranty. Sounds like a calibration problem.

I don't recall for sure if that one was an option, but there's a setting on the instrument cluster for something like popup notifications and which to display.

I disabled the gear selector popup because it stays for so long. A better setting would be the time to display the each one.

If you use regular cruise it won't pop up, I only use radar cruise when I'm eating pizza on the highway. It is annoying though especially if you have it set to pick up vehicles way out in front of you. It pops up all the time then!

Aha, thank you I will look into that! So far I'm happy with what it allows to be turned off. I got rid of auto door lock and head/dome lights staying on right away.

I have to agree that radar cruise display is a constant distraction and totally unnecessary. I don't see a reason for it, I can see the cars in front of me perfectly fine. It's so annoying I use the "regular" cruise control. The only parts of the tech package I use are blind spot and rear cross-path.

First time with active cruise for me.
The display can be annoying but at least I notice it and pass instead of just following the slower car?
I didn’t know about the long press to use regular cruise I find I do that a lot more now.

I typically don’t rid up on vehicles to start that alert, definitely helps with fuel mileage too. Depth of field isn’t for everyone, my GF can’t seem to judge other vehicle speeds either.

As mentioned above, easy answer, don't use the adaptive cruise control, use regular cruise control; this is just one reason of many why I rarely use the adaptive cruise mode.

I don’t ride up on others either.
Mine defaults to the longest range and I’m not anywhere being close to the vehicle ahead. So I just use the old school cruise on the interstate I know when I need to move.

@dwschaefer if I am not mistaken, the warnings in the center screen can be disabled with techstream. Kind of like how it can be used to change the time your blinker stays on when activated for lane changes.

I use the radar cruise all the time. It's my first vehicle with it. I actually think it's nice but sometimes it annoyed me too. When people hop in front of you or merge in and go slow. I have mine set to the longest distance also. When I see it pop up I usually look for an opening to pass.
I really don't have the most excellent depth perception so it is almost like a little aid.
I like it better than driving with old skool cruise. I get more annoyed by tapping the brakes and then constantly resuming it after a pass. The adaptive will just resume my set speed when there is nothing ahead, I like that.
That said if the interstate is a little bit congested I just prefer to drive with cruise off.

I love the adaptive cruise on the highway. It makes driving more pleasant when you run into stupid people that don't realize two lanes going the same direction isn't just about personal preference.

No, it isn't perfect. Show me something that is and it will certainly start a new debate.

The only time I use adaptive CC these days is if I'm in a no-passing zone on a two-lane highway; if CC is on at any other time, it is regular CC.

There is no answer for your problems.
Set it closer or use regular cruise. That is it even though you don't want to hear it.

I also love how new guys think they can be proactive on what gets posted in their thread lol.
Public forum, public answers, especially for such a 1st world fucking problem.
If you actually had an important question or needed actual help, there would instantly be 18 pages of pertinent info and volunteers for whatever you needed.
But, being upset over a screen pop up for radar cruise? Expect maybe one or two serious answers and the rest will be shenanigans.
