I've tried searching and reading threads but I cannot come up with a conclusion.

I have a 2002 v6 auto taco and I cannot get the cruise control problem fixed.

When I press the button to turn on cruise control the light comes on and goes off as soon as I release the button. When the light goes off I hear an audible click from the center of the car somewhere.

I do know how to use the cruise control so that's not the issue.

I tried removing the harness in the engine bay and re plugging it back in but that didn't work.

I do have an abs light on, but I wasn't sure if that effected it. ( cannot communicate with abs unit)

I checked the brake light switch and it looks fine. I have all my brake lights when depressing the pedal.

    any ideas?

    thanks!

Bump is the cc module a common thing to go out?

Crouse module is not common to fail. You said your air bag is on, is there a chance your spiral cable is bad? Are horn and turn signal s fine?

I would get the ABS system scanned to find out what is the code for. It may be something that prevents cruise control from working. Some auto parts stores have scan tools and will scan it for free. ABS is the anti lock brake system. Even though your brake lights work the brake light switch could be a fail for ABS.

Cruise control is not tied into the SRS on a First Gen. '02 don't have anti lock breaking if I'm not mistaken. I think '04 was the first year.

Howdy CEP, see your from the state.

Mich. is a cool state, moved here from the Chicago area about 10 years ago. Would never move back.

My 1999 has ABS. It was an option for many years and then became standard equipment.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Check your fuses too, there is one for CC and it might be blown. But typically, the light just wouldn't come on at all if that were the case. Still wouldn't hurt to look and see.

Option, that's right. Standard in '04. Thanks.

Does the OP have anti lock brakes? If so, I know on the Gen2's a bad wheel speed sensor will keep the cruise from working. Not sure about 1st gens.

Abs light is on because computer issue. Been trying to find another one but no luck. Got it diagnose. Diagnostic computer was unable to communicate to the unit.

I checked the brake switch and the plunger is still there and all the tail lights light up when pressed and shuts off when not.

Thanks for all your replies. I hope I could figure this out

If your having Ecm/computer issues, that needs to be found and fixed first.

Only thing I have wrong now is the diag computer not being able to connect with the abs computer.

I wish I could find the cc computer to see if that's the issue. Looks like PO had it in some mud as there is lightly dried dirt in that side of the truck.
