    Hey everyone,

I have an automatic 06 sport and am having problems with my cruise control.

It is almost like it has a loose connection somewhere, some times it will work and some times it won't. Some times it will turn on but can't engage or it won't turn on at all. I have replaced the lever/switch on the steering wheel as I thought that was the issue, it worked better (Not 100%) after the install but has returned to the initial problem. Has anyone had this problem before? I have heard the spiral cable could be the culprit but wouldn't that mean I would have lost blinker, windshield wipers, auto controls, etc.? I also live on dirt roads with occasional wash board which is why I'm thinking something got raddled loose. Electrical issues are not my forte ;(

    Thanks!

Spiral cable. If you push the cruise button and the light on the dash doesn't light up, turn the steering wheel and see if there's a spot where it does light up. That will confirm that the problem is the spiral cable. The wires that go through the spiral cable are air bag, horn, radio controls, and cruise control. Any of those can be broken without affecting the others.

Sure enough! The light will only come on after I turn the wheel one full turn to the left. I'm ordering a spiral cable off of rock auto now.

    Thanks!

Make sure you get the correct one. There's 1 for with radio controls and 1 for without. Whether you decide to go expensive OEM or cheap aftermarket, that's up to you.

I had the exact same problem last month. The problem ended up being the clock spring. I also went ahead and changed out the cruise control to start off with (worn out/14 years old), but the problem persisted. Changed out the clock spring next and it's been working perfectly ever since. Don't buy a cheap knock off clock spring. Go for an OEM from Ebay...and skip the stealership unless you have $500 to burn. I think I paid about $30 for mine on Ebay. Last year I bought a cheap $9 off-brand clock spring on Amazon I think and it lasted, well about a year before it crapped out.
