+1, its all about power. My car doesn't drop more than 1mph even in mountains. Doesn't down shift out of 6th.

Only partially true, as the gear ratios come into play. Chest thump all you want, but the 'Yota CC problem, at least in the '05~'15 4.0, is real. It waits far too long to ramp up and is equally slow on the ramp down. If you re-gear higher the problem is less, but still there, as the ECU is slow to respond.

Wow, worse case of apples and oranges in a while. Comparing a F/I to a N/A. At least use the S/C numbers if you want to be close. BTW what rpms does that roll at 65?

exactly... my curiosity for asking and hope is that with the new engine, extra tranny gear, and hopefully smarter computer, it would be better on the 16's

yep, whole different issue that highway with hills. I am OK with the converter lock up but when it starts dropping to 4th I will kick cruise off. I use it for short periods on long drives to avoid cramps in my right leg.

I didn't use the cruise on my '14 more than a couple of times in 30k miles (haven't used it on the '16 yet). But what I didn't like about it was that when I came to a hill or rise, the truck would slow down, then drop a couple of gears in a late shift then try to make up for it by really getting into the throttle.

Anyone use adaptive cruise control in a vehicle that has it?

Wish Ford had it as an option on their lower end models and Toyota offered it.
I love it. Only real new technology in vehicles that I really like. That and the tailgate step.

Toyota cruise control sucks. My 05 Tundra DC 4x4 V8 down shifted all the time from 5th to 4th and even 3rd! Such BS, I just never used it unless it was 100% flat, it was that annoying. Same with other Toyotas in the family. Very annoying.

Most likely the 2016 will behave the same way because its cruising at such a low rpm for mpgs sake. No way it'll stay in 6th when Toyota V8s with gobs more torque cant even hang in 5th.

Actually my 2004 Accord 2.4L auto usually stays in 5th in CC on the hills where the Tundra was downshifting.......Something wrong there.

Fifth gear in gen3 (V6 AT) is almost exactly the same as 5th in gen2; so, if gen2 is downshifting to 4th, gen3 would almost certainly do the same--but that will be two gears. Wonder if it would go from 6 to 4 directly?

My gen1 will go through an endless cycle of 4(locked), 4(unlocked), 3, 2, 3, 4(unlocked), 4(locked), 3, 2, ... up a steep interstate until I intervene. Pretty close to +/- 10 mph. It downshifts/unlocks much sooner with cruise on than off.

I like/use my cc all the time. It's mostly very flat down here, but still run into a few hills. During the first 500 miles or so I did notice the transmission downshifting late and upshifting late, with higher revs and mph than cc was set at. After the first 500 miles it seemed to loosen up or something. I'm driving the same roads also. Maybe I just got used to it. I'll have to keep that watched. I think I would have noticed that though, if it had continued. Might just be a break in issue that solves itself.

I doubt it will be much different.. Especially since it sounds like the torque curve is worse down low on the new engine.

Speaking of which a dyno would be nice for this engine.. feel like manufacturers should supply these for consumers to view.. it's not like they don't have them.

It is about power though.. my car holds 92 (CC max) within 1mph no problem up even the biggest hills on I65 in North Alabama. It does have a manual box so downshifting is not an option for the computer.

It's gonna get it from torque or horsepower. You want it to use torque as much as possible. Watch the YouTube video where they tow the trailer up the Ike Gauntlet using a 2015 Tacoma. Have they done that tow with the 2016 yet?

I live in Houston, TX but the timing part on using the cc involves driving my 30 miles to work at 4 a.m. before rush hr................L.A. rush hr = 24 hrs so I could see where that could be an issue.

I also work near the airport and live near DTLA so my traffic is a mixture is commuters, Express lane, general assholery, and airport traffic. Times also vary from 4 AM to 9 AM Its a real party sometimes. Much better than my commute to southern Orange County that I used to have to do.
