No "partial" to it. My car has 2.92 gears. Here is a vid pulling a 6% grade. Cruise set at 59mph. TCC never even unlocks.

I see I was correct about chest thumping. What are the specs on your G8? LS3 and 4k lbs with 26inch low profile tires? Apples and oranges.

6.0l L76, makes 470 to the wheels, 550+ at the crank. 4300# with me in it. 27" street tires.

    I can make the same video with a 8000# 2500hd and a stock 6.0 with 3.73 and 33's

You should consider making a new thread, or even two, as I'm sure there are others that are interested in your vehicles that will never find your posts in a thread for cruise control.
I hope your race that G8, as having that much horsepower and torque spend it's life on the street is really so much untapped potential that it would be a shame.

Tacomas are all about the combination of efficiency and durability, and the 2nd gen power-train is pretty hard to beat. Most of us with backgrounds in engine and power-train building have been anticipating changes in the gear ratios and power curves to achieve higher fuel economy while maintaining the utilitarian aspects in a durable power-train.

So to get back on topic, has anyone tried the '16 cruise control, running for 50 miles on the flat then hitting some hills to see if it loses it's mind?

I saw the post stating that the ECT does not seem to have much effect.

if its anything like the CC of late for Toyota's, then it will bog down going up hills. once the set speed is -3 or -4 mph, it will kick out of overdrive. once it hits -5 mph or more it will kick down a gear.

the biggest issue I have is the brains for the CC takes forever to kick up a gear or into overdrive once its past a hill, it tends to hold 4th gear way to long to the point I have to disengage CC or I help the gas pedal compensate for the hill before I get to it, or (this is what I usually do), manually kick it down to 4th (in my 2012 Tacoma and 14 4runner).

something about backpressure keeping CC from upshifting from what I heard 3rd party.

I use CC every day to/from work and I've never had any issues with it. Then again I don't expect too much from a cheap (relatively speaking) truck.

Must be Tacoma thing, because the cc in my '14 Avalon works great and I use it all the time.

Back on topic here... I've been using the CC on the '16 often since I got it, I've been on a few long trips around sw colorado and utah and it works pretty good. It downshifts quickly on hills and stays within 5mph of the set speed. Sometimes it does shift one gear higher than I would like, but it's not often enough to call it annoying. The downshift for downhills or back to normal is also pretty quick unless you just finished climbing a steep hill and it doesn't go flat at the top, but instead is just a lower grade climb, the truck will stay in whatever gear it was in on the climb for a while. Either way, it stays within a few mph of set speed in any condition, and shifting is pretty quick either way.

Also in Colorado and have been using it - seems to be fine so far. It holds within 2 MPH based on the digital readout. I have noticed that the digital readout and the analog readout of the speed seem to be off a little - the digital one is higher - I need to check it against GPS to see which is correct. One thing that it would be nice to have which seems like an oversight is a display of what it is set to .. recent '15 Camry rental I used had that - was kind of nice. Other than that it seems fine on highways. I don't use it around town and haven't had it on state highways at lower "high" speeds yet and those are usually rather hilly so I don't bother.

Not sure if already mentioned but does the cruise control indicate digitally somewhere what speed you're set to?

Literally just walked in the door from a 14 hour drive in my 2016. It works fine, but like most everyone else I kicked it off when I saw a hill coming to keep the tranny from kicking down. Works better than my V8 4Runner though.

Unfortunately no, at least I haven't seen it. There may be a way to set the display to do so. There are so many options and customizations for what info you have displayed and where.
