I did a little more digging... do you have a drive by wire throttle (ECTS) or a cable from the pedal. Apparently the cruise control for each is different.

I have this issue intermittently.. It happens when I climb a hill and forget to turn off the cc. It will hold as long as it can and then you can feel a small *pop* in the gas pedal and then the cc light starts blinking. I feel like it won't work again until I restart the truck, and even then sometimes it doesn't work still.

I have a cable driven cc btw.

I've got a '99 Manual 4x4 3.4L and the cruise control hasn't worked since I purchased it used a year go. Light doesn't come on and nothing engages. It's cable driven. Judging from a few responses here it looks like I should check fuses, any other leads to dig up?

Easy enough to unplug your trailer harness and check if it fixes the cruise issue. Just my two cents

I don't use mine much but I think it stopped working when I added the trailer wiring - why?
The light comes on but cannot engage. Anyhow CC does not seem to work too well on a manual.

OK just saw previous post - unplug wiring

I believe in cases similar to yours, the trailer harness wiring had either been set up or degraded in a way that caused the brake switch to be active all the time. So in these cases, the cruise control was automatically cancelled or never even set due to the brake being “on”. Similar to how applying brakes should turn cruise control off.

I have a CC that works perfect most of the time for long drives then all of a sudden doesn’t, but if I tap the brake while driving (3.4 5 spd) cut it off and back on it comes back to normal…Weird but I can use it until I figure the bugs out.

It may be that these old style CC are not that reliable - I had a Mustang and I used to take long trips on less traveled roads so used CC a lot. Once was coming up on a curve fast so tapped the brake to disengage and after about 1 sec the CC re-enaged by itself. Scared the hell out me just because it was so unexpected and I dont think I ever used it again. As I recall the early Prius had some scary intermittent issue with CC also.

Have you checked the switch on the brake peddle or clutch? Might need to be adjusted.

Those two are the suspects and I’m leaning towards the brake as it takes multiple presses to get the cruise to come back on.

It's an easy fix. Just back out the switch and tighten it down
