Thanks everyone, I had a feeling that guy was wrong. Why are so many parts guys absolutely terrible at their jobs?

Because they suck. No really they simply suck at their jobs, life, everything. The parts guy at my local Toyota parts counter is a fucking idiot who hates his job, the world, and I guess me. However the parts girl who I sometimes get knows her shit and is very pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately I tend to get stuck with the idiot. I feel your pain.

That's exactly what he did, made it up. He didn't even look on the computer, he just instantly blurted out "they're all the same" and proceeded to give me 6 of the same washers.

I have not drained the rear differential yet so I have not verified the crush washer by sight myself. I have only removed the service plugs to top off all four units. My research (to include a discussion with the local Toyota Parts Department folks) indicates the rear differential‘s drain and service crush washers are the same. Why so many different crush washers on one truck must be attributed to different sub-contractors (aka Aisin and Hino). Hence the reason I have spares for each type of crush washer. Don’t go by the number of washers on the piece of paper. They are taped there so I don’t lose them.

Because like every other brick and mortar, stealership parts department, they don't pay enough. At $12.75 I was at the higher end when I retired... A journeyman at most trades are in the high $20s and even $30's right? LOL

Changed my differential fluids today at 51K miles. There was no washer on the rear drain plug. The dealership was the last to touch the differential when I had the weeping rearend TSB addressed. The bolt was over torqued probably so it would not leak.
