If you find a good body shop you won't even know it was hit when it's done. It's your money of course, but you'll likely get a low ball trade in and overpay if you rush to trade it for a new truck.

    Do as you think best.

Slight OT drift. Can someone post a link to that spread sheet? I've tried and failed to find it.

    This sucks
I’d be curious what the otd difference is between keeping it and repairing vs selling as is and getting a new Tacoma, same trim level. Also have to factor in difference in trade value with an accident on the carfax report…. Which is on paper as long as you own the vehicle vs cash out of pocket now…

Also factor in how much you love the quicksand as that’s obviously a no go at this point ..

Sorry to hear about your truck. I’m right there with you. I’d be trading for a new one. Glad you are okay. Good luck with your new one.

Looks like more than $15K damage to my uneducated mind. Which brings up a thought about insurance evaluation on a totaled vehicle, specifically where "market adjustment" on a replacement vehicle is involved.
As the Allstate commercial guy says, if you don't have the right insurance, you might have to pay for this (market adjustment) yourself.

This has been in the forefront of my mind. 15k is the body work and radiator support panels, plus some labor. It doesn't account for any suspension work, which i suspect may be involved eventually. Furthermore, diminished value is an interesting concept here, because new is roughly the same as used on the day of the accident. So i wonder if insurance will try and screw me and value it a month from now if the market dips.

For me, even if the truck was structurally sound after the repairs, it still wouldn't be in my head. It would never be new or like it was at least in my thinking. I'd trade for a new one. I had a wreck on my Harley, same issue. It was fixed and probably was as good as before (not really!!) but in my head it would never be right. Traded it for another bike!!

Something else to consider is the current delay on repair parts. My step daughters 2021 Chevy Equinox stayed at the body shop almost 3 months waiting on a part. Part came in and they had it done in two days. Parts supply chain is still jacked up across all manufacturers.

Yea I’d probably get a new truck as well unless you get your ass handed to you on trade given the extreme damage and frame repair.

This is very true these days. Hopefully the insurance will cover the cost of a rental vehicle. Best of luck to you.

There are a couple of threads somewhere on the forum about trucks totaled because of long delay in getting frames. The insurance company decided that it was cheaper to pay out for the vehicle than it would be to pay for a rental car for a year.

My son hit a deer with his '11 Tacoma earlier this year. It took over two months for the truck to be repaired because of parts delays.

If the wrong folks work on it, you could be right. If the right folks work on it, it will be fine.

    Maybe not. See above.

Fully agree. You just have to know where they are.

    Also agreed.

@Doolsmack_Bud it's a difficult thing to go through. The good news is you don't mention injuries, the person who hit you stopped and should understand their responsibility. Accidents happen, even when caused by carelessness.

My suggestion would be not to panic. Let a high end shop get things peeled back and see how much real damage exists

In addition to a good plumber, electrician, carpenter, power equipment guy, and independent garage, everyone should have a good body shop in their "Rolodex."
