anybody ever short BTC? I've only traded. but it's possible to make money on both sides of the market.

 

Are you talking about margin trading to short? That’s a good way to get rekt in my opinion. Crypto is just so volitile and succeptable to manipulation.

 

ya it's definitely risky, as the loss potential is unlimited. I've shorted stocks by selling put options but I don't think that'll work for crypto. I haven't done any research yet, so it may be. Just asking incase somebody had done it before.

 

I don't know why anyone would be talking about selling until we see BTC back up in the 13000-15000 range. Most people were loading up on crypto in the Dec-January time frame. Unless you dumped a ton at a loss, we still have a long way to go.

 

I agree, but I'm trying to learn how to short so I can swap position at say 15000 and make money on the way down, instead of just watching my value deteriorate. gotta learn now, not when it's time to act.

 

Alt coin positions will follow bitcoin as its king. Best bet is to go back into fiat to stop the bleed.

 

some people trade in and out of Tether since it is closely traded at the dollar value.

 

Can you explain this? Selling (shorting) puts is a bullish strategy. You lose money as a stock declines...to take advantage of a stock decline, you’d short a call. Unless I’m missing something?

Which really is annoying as in this day and age btc blows. Eth really should be on top as a vast majority of projects are utilizing the eth network for their smart contracts where as btc really isn't used for much of anything (imo)

It's due to being rare. It's more like gold or currency than any of them. It's the daddy of the crypto world.

 

I guess I forgot what it was like to see volitility going up. I think it’ll be short lived though.

 

O it is the "daddy". Its also now controlled pretty much entirely by Bitmain (ie China).

 

what I was doing was, selling puts to open on the vix. the vix always wants to come down due to the nature of the system used to price it. So when there was a spike in the price I'd sell puts and as the price dropped I'd buy them back to close the position.
