Well my know it all 12 year old managed to download the CryptoLocker virus on to my desktop a few days ago (somehow while watching YouTube?). It'll look like this when you get it....

In case anyone manages to get it, here is a good walk through to rid yourself of it. Worked like a charm for me....my Kaspersky Anti-Virus did not do anything for it.

    Antivirus rarely ever catch malware.

Malwarebytes will clean it up for you as well.

Out of curiosity, I know a lot of these viruses are fake and scams. Did this one actually encrypt your files, and if so were you able to decrypt them to actually use them again?

Just an fyi, your files are almost certainly still encrypted (whatever files the virus managed to encrypt). There's no recovering them unless you pay the ransom or have backups of those files. This virus is the real deal...

Removing the virus won't unencrypt your files, nor will running that unencrypt tool in the link you posted. That tool works for a very old variation of this virus which stored the encryption key on the infected computer. Cryptolocker stores the key on a remove server.

Google "reddit cryptolocker" without quotes for more information on this thing

I just finished the 2nd scan from the link I showed. I haven't done the search yet to see what I lost (encrypted files).

Just a follow up to my last post, by the time you see the popup message with the countdown, that damage has already been done. It stays silent while it encrypts your files.

That's what I figured. That sucks. Haven't come across this one in person and everybody kept saying it was for real. Was curious if anyone found a way around it yet. I haven't seen one other than restore from backed up files.

good luck OP:thumbsup:! I hate internet cyberbullies/crooks, allways trying to scam decent people out of money. I had the Green Dot MoneyPak virus/ransomware, a few weeks ago total pain to rid my computer of.

Honestly I'm not too concerned with lost files because all the important stuff was backed up. I just didn't want to have to buy another $800 desktop, especially with Xmas coming up.
