So far I’m none of the above, just freeway crawling. But having had most previous vehicles suffer from insufficient capacity I’m on the lookout.

Temps are well controlled 99% of the time. But I still tend to overheat when crawling. I attribute this to the slower circulating coolant of idle rpms. Options are:
to turn the fan controller down even more but I'm down two turns past as far as I'm supposed to go on the potentiometer.

Add a second temp sensor- theoretically modifying resistance so I could then be back in the middle ground of the potentiometer.

Or cut holes in the hood- tastefully and mostly over the headers like so. (These are the louvers I purchased but not my truck)

That looks way more stealth than a new fiberglass hood. Looked at McNeil's and it is quite flashy:

Ahhh. Makes sense. Still easier than wrapping the headers, that is for certain.

White hot thermal image at the bottom.
Initial observations- temps seem to drop faster,
Cab noise at highway speeds is noticeably down!?!?
Mirage visible outta vents when stopped.

I've always wanted to know how automakers install these without water collection issues. Like where does rain water go? In/through/under the hood and onto the engine?
I understand it can get into the engine bay slightly anyway from other areas/points of access such as fender wells, underneath, and through grill. But they say when washing/detailing your engine to mask or bag certain things off and not spray a lot of water directly on electrical parts like ignition coils and alternator.
And although these vents seem too far back to hit the alternator with water, it looks like they still could get some onto the ignition system.
    At least during standstill.
I get that some cars have fake closed off "vents" just for looks, but some are real.
Though in the case of Subaru WRX/STI hood scoop, I think foam blocks the scoop off to only taking in air to the top mount turbo intercooler fins for cooling.
In which case, for one, that intercooler will probably be hot during operating temperature anyway, and just burn off/evaporate any water that gets on it. I'm not sure how they keep it from breaking given that thermal shock like that can sometimes crack metal (getting cold water on a hot part)

Matt's Off Road Recovery jeep XJ has hood vents that I'm guessing are real. Not sure how rainy his location is

blocked off oem TRD Sport scoop hood could also be cut through

The hood scoop for the TMIC on Subaru is plastic then metal shroud and rubber surround used as a gasket directly to TMIC. Air goes into the scoop, into the metal shroud, through TMIC then dumps onto the back of the block/transmission. then exits under the car.

This is not a concern with modern vehicles and you really only need to start worrying with stuff that's ~20-30+ yrs old. This is what everyone tells you - cover everything, don't spray water in the engine bay...etc but that's people who had old cars, carbureted cars, cars that weren't sealed as tight as modern cars. You can take any modern car, start it up, open the hood and put your garden hose full blast on the coils or alternator and nothing will happen. The car will just run happily as if nothing is happening. Ever see those trucks that do deep water crossings? Same thing, there's water all up in that engine bay and everything is A-OK.

Sure, if you use a pressure washer and point it directly into electrical connectors, yeah, you could have issues. Or if something is modded or damaged/worn there could be issues. But these days, air cleaner and electrical systems are very well sealed from the elements.

I don't cover a single thing when I wash the engine bay of any of our cars (with the exception of when I had an aftermarket intake with exposed filter element) and have been doing so for 15yrs. Now that I wash with a pressure washer and foam cannon I even use that in the engine bay (of course not high pressure up close). If I was cleaning the engine bay of a 60's era muscle car, then yeah, I'd do it differently but all of our cars are 1990 or newer and none have ever had an issue. I wash the engine bay of each of our 4 cars at least a few times a year if not more. Never, ever, ever have I had an issue.

We don’t have distributors anymore and the air intake is sealed in the fender well. A few drops or spray won’t cause failure but I wouldn’t use a pressure washer on it.

    this makes sense
I've seen people pressure wash engines on modern cars despite any such warnings and everything went fine

For what little it's worth- I've garden hose cleaned or engine bay and pressure wash it as needed. Also we've had a few good rain storms since the louver install. No issues
