Would rather swap in an older 3.9 4bt and tune it for power. Leave the 2.8 for Nissan to wrap their heads around having a second diesel wholesale vehicle in their American lineup. With the bigger 5.0 in the Titan, might as well compete with GM and stuff a 4cyl diesel in the Frontier. I just hope they don't royally truck up the frontier and make it look like crossover more than a mid sized pickup truck.

My fire department (as well as SEVERAL other departmentsin this area) are totally getting away from diesel ambulances. DEF, price of diesel, maintenance costs, etc are making less sense economically.

I can't imagine you'll ever get your cost of the swap back.

Buying a sports car makes no financial sense in the first place. It is purely a "fun" purchase. What can you do with it, other than collect speeding tickets? ;) :)

Yeah, I don't get the appeal for diesels here.

If you tow heavy loads all the time, sure.
If you need the additional range, sure.

Otherwise, they are a pain in the rear to own.

The lemons end up in those used car lots in Inglewood and Hawthorne and still fetch a pretty penny

If you really want a diesel just get a new ZR-2 Colorado.

Direct from Cummins. Take the survey on the page. Tell them you want a Tacoma kit to be released. It's gonna run you $10k I would imagine. They are in the development stages in a second engine line that is supposed to be around 350lbs/ft of torque. This would definitely be a good option for the Tacoma or any other mid sized truck. I have been stacking my beans to do a diesel swap on mine in the distan future already. I am in and out of the Philippines pretty regular and the JDM market is huge there. I have several friends in the salvage market there. I will most likely do a swap out of a Hilux or a Parado when the time comes so that the electronics will play nice with each other. These Cummins crates are a great option though.

That would work great in those 90 model 4runners that the V-6 engines are nearly impossible to find

3" Pro-comp lift, Camburg Upper Control Arms, Bestop Canvas bed-topper, All-pro steel wheels, LED lamps, custom grill, LED Light Bar, Wilco Tire-gate, Corbeau Moab seats, DIY truck-bed drawer system. Will soon upgrade to Bilstein 6112 Coil-overs
So, I've been kicking around this same idea probably since before this thread was started (I looked into importing an 80's Land Cruiser diesel from Canada and this Cummins showed up), I am driving a 2nd Gen TRD w/260K on it and payed next to nothing for her nearly five years ago. After looking at what diesels from CAN and AUS are going for you could 'theoretically' do the Cummins swap and turn around the Taco for nearly $25k+, not that any of us try to flip newer Toyotas... Emissions aside, I put a ton of miles on my Taco and the added mileage would be really nice especially for the jobs I get out in the backcountry. Is the diesel angle still silly and would I be better having my current engine rebuilt, flashed, and a larger gas tank installed? If I went new I cannot justify the near identical mileage a 2017 gets next to my 2006, so I'd probably look *cough, at a new Diesel Colorado... Or building something a Russian would love. -I would appreciate some words of wisdom ;)

I took the survey. I don't care how much it costs that would be THE truck I would drive for life.

A diesel 6 speed tacoma. That is a dream truck if I ever heard of one.
