If Cummins is looking for a manual tester I'll volunteer.

Sounds good for those who have the coin to do it and are in emission lax states. For me though, in the people's republic of commiefornia, this just wouldn't fly. On a side note: my boss does have a DT466 powered Chevy pickup from the 70's. One of his buddies has a similar diesel converted setup with a small Cummins. All smog test exempt due to age of vehicle.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I'm gonna hold out for the 3.3L. Looking at the specs on the 2.8l I believe it would feel under powered in a Tacoma for the performance most of us are seeking out of a diesel swap.

This engine is perfect for a 1st Gen 4 door Tacoma/3rd Gen 4runner (MUCH simpler electonic vehicle integration) with 250K+ miles on it that has been taken care of (and doesn't have frame issues! :)). Get the truck/4runner for $4-9K, $7-8K for the engine, another $10-15k for the install and refreshing all the non-engine things that need to be refreshed on a 250K+ mile vehicle. Yea, you have $25-30k into it, but that would be damn near a perfect vehicle as far as I'm concerned. But it's not cheap or easy or quick.

It makes absolutely no sense for a 3rd gen Tacoma right now (blown engine or not) and probably never will from an electronics integration standpoint. It would be pretty damn easy to integrate that motor into a 1st gen Tacoma/3rd gen 4runner and have everything operate as if it was a factory option...I'm thinking it would be damn near impossible (or STUPIDLY expensive) to make that happen in a 3rd Gen...but it would be cool. :)
