This, that, & the other thing
This is true with a 7000 lb. truck with 3.54 ring & pinions and 31" tires, especially when you put a heavy load behind it. In a truck half that weight with lower gears and taller tires, it might work better. There is a reason that Dodge went to the 6 speed but the 5's worked ok when the trucks were empty of payload. Add a 4BT to the equation and the torque curve being slightly different, it might actually work ok. Just a thought.

I think that is an extremely biased response from them at a very early stage in its release. I also asked axis industries on Instagram about part availability and they said you walk right into Cummins and order what you need. Axis industries seems to be the current leader in 2.8 swaps for jeeps. Cummins also claims that the engines are built where the engine is mostly used. It's made for the Asian market so it's built in Asia.

R2.8 is a better engine for tacomas imo, its 300 pounds lighter then a 4bt and will mount to toyota R serious transmission.

The 4BT was built for small commercial trucks in Asia and sounds like a 6.7 L power stroke (loud as hell). I’ve never got why so many guys get horny for them. Unless you’re dropping them into a trailered trail rig or want to wake up everyone on the block when you start it they don’t make much sense.

Hmm, a company that makes money off importing and swaping in Toyota built diesels doesn’t like a Cummins kit...

They just don’t want to put the work into the R2.8 that they already put into making the Toyota D-4D work. They probably spent a small fortune to make the D-4D swap clean and functional, I doubt it makes sense for them to go through that again if they can’t make any more profit by offering a second option.

I dig around every once in a while to see if there's anything new other than someone on youtube dropping in a cummins diesel into a 2nd gen.

Sorry, I added to my post much to the same effect. Probably doubles their development cost with a very limited increase in market size and probably lower profits.

Yeah, I've heard about them vaguely. It makes sense. Spend the substantial cost to develop a clean swap process for a single diesel engine that you can source easily, then turn around and sell that finished process. Adding more engine options would just mean higher costs without being able to target a larger market.

fortunately, the canadian guy actually did expand his engine experience, well just within the vw family.
