I’ve got a set of cooper discoverer stts.

They were mounted white text side out. I had the tire show swap the tires to be facing black text side out and now I am experiencing noise at 50+ miles per hour.
Initially I thought it was a balance issue, so I took it bs k to the shop.
They “rebalanced” the tires and told me all was fine. But my tires were “cupping”.

They did not do this before swapping the orientation of tires. Am I correct in thinking that this is the cause?

I asked the shop prior to swapping if it would affect alignment or ride and they said it would not.

Could be coincidental that the cupping started with the wheel re-mounting. Usual causes are misalignment or worn suspension components. I had some cupping issues caused by failed UCA ball joints that came on slowly, but when the cupping became apparent it happened quite quickly. Could be that your shocks or ball joints are marginally failing and caused something similar but you'd have to check yours out to be sure.

Alignment: just got it CPO and had them check alignment because the truck pulled right. They said it looked good. Blamed it on road camber for drainage and the fact that cooper stts pull right.

now I’m thinking it could be something bigger than tires.

it’s covered under the CPO gold plan, however I don’t have much faith in the dealership I went to.

How would y’all recommend going about this?

Pay the money and get an alignment done at a quality tire shop. Generally an alignment will run about $100. Nothing else it gives you a second opinion. I like Belle Tire

i am not familiar with the cooper stts. do you mean stt? why such an aggressive tire, just curious?

are you sure the cupping is not caused by improper tire pressure? do all tires look the same in terms of wear and cupping, or is it just one or two? if one or two tires, where are they or were they prior to the new wheels - front or back?

don't these trucks have a pinch of camber built in on stock suspension? Wondering if that could explain the feeling after reversing the tires after accumulating some milage.

Agree w/ what most are saying though - get an alignment

How many miles was it driven before the swap? The tires as they are now are turning the opposite direction as to what they were.

    1. Post pictures of your tires.
    2. Post the print out of your alignment.

There is no point in anyone speculating or guessing because there could be 100 things wrong and you are going to get guesses and bad suggestions. Case in point is a reference about camber. Camber does not in any way whatsoever cause a pull.

Your new wheels could be out of round or bent.

I'd also have the tires flipped back to white lettering out to remove another variable.

    What wheels?
Are they hub or lug centric?

My truck tire tends to wear uneven as well, but only on the front driver outside edge. Is it the same with yours? Anyway, I never had a car previous to this truck that did this. I find rotating the tires more often will help. I use the front, back and then « x » pattern method.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
When the tires were dismounted and remounted did they swap sides with them so that they would be rotating in the same direction?
Some reviews on Cooper's site make mention of the cupping issue, although no remedy was mentioned.

Yes exactly. Right front when to left front. left front when to right front.

Issue is primarily from the rear. It may not even be cupping tbh. It’s a minor vibrations that causes that rapid “va-va-va-va” sound when reaching speed.
Currently having a different shop check the true on my new wheels. (For free)

if they’re good, I’ll be taking it into a truck specialty alignment shop to have them take a look.

and yes hubcentric. They’re rep TRD pro wheels.

In original post you say cupping then in post 14 you say "It may not even be cupping tbh". What exactly is the issue? Do you know what "cuooing" is?
If it's vibration you're concerned with it most likely is wheel balancing. Tire pressure can affect it also. Tire pressure is the easiest and first thing to check. Alignment may have a slight affect on vibration but not much.
It also could be just your tires starting to wear or even a belt in the tire starting to slip.
At the end of post 14 you say "It’s a minor vibrations that causes that rapid “va-va-va-va” sound when reaching speed."
If it's minor maybe live with it and learn to sing along with the va-va-va-va whatever that is ha-ha.
