Whats the best way to tackle curb rash on a rim? Recently bought a 06 Prerunner that has some nasty curb rash I'd like to repair. Let me hear them ways.

That unfortunately is not an option seeing as I just spent a lot buying the vehicle.

I've read you can fill the curb rash with Sandable body filler but unsure how well this will hold and not crack and fall off.

I leave them alone. Cost to repair outweighs cost of the wheels. Mine are tore up from just taking them to tire shops recently Costco. They are chipped from the weights and impact wrenches rammed into the lugs.

Powder coat or plastidip are options good luck

Consider a higher profile tire. The tire bulge gives more rim protection from curbs.

If they're stock wheels, check your local ads for stock wheels, sell your wheels and at the end your replacement wheels will cost you almost close to nothing.

    OR

You can always get your wheels powder-coated to whatever color you want.

Look and see if there are local places that do wheel repair. They're everywhere in Baltimore.

Honestly, you could probably get away with plast-dip or even a sharpy, just so you can hide it and spend your money else where on your rig.

I tried to plast dip my brand new rims after I let my girlfriend drive my truck and she ate up a curb in a drive through.:annoyed:
And the plasti dip didn't stick worth a s**t. I found a can of spray paint at autozone for rims (it's by the night shade and all that) that says for repairing and re painting rims I am going to try it once I get some free time.

I've used some of the rim touch ups for when I had my sport bike and it worked pretty well.

I would think plasti dip wouldn't be a good idea.

So no one has actually tried the sandable putty to fill it in and just spray painting it?

    Just a few LEDs...
Sort term solution: Touch up paint.

Long term solution to prevent it from happening again: New rims and wider tires with a more aggressive sidewall.

So I'm very new here. Just got my Tacoma home today actually! Anyway just wanted to say, previously I had a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge with some pretty severe curb damage to one of the wheels. I removed all 4 wheels, placed index cards in gap between wheel edge and tire all the way around and evenly and heavily coated them in black plastidip (about 4 coats). I very much loved the look but mainly they hid all damage very well. If you didn't know it was there you could't tell. I did this in 2011 and it never came off or flaked and that truck got totaled last week. My wheels were aluminum so that may be the difference but it worked like a charm for me.

I would just scuff the rough spots down and use a black paint pen. I've seen people try and use the body filler on car wheels before. Doesn't like the heat that gets transfered from heavy braking. There are shops that can "weld" in the deep spots and machine them down. But honestly the wheels you can get nowadays for arround $100 a piece are pretty nice.

Seeing as plastidip isn't too expensive I might as well give that a try.
