Same here. Kept the stock box with airaid and put in a reusable air filter. (Cant remember the brand. might be K&N.)

Interesting the K&N carb number is no longer valid, probably going to cause some trouble for a lot of guys on here that run it. I'm guessing K&N figured they didn't need to renew it or whatever given the age of these trucks now.

A lot qualify for classic registration and no smog here with mileage restrictions.

My 01 passed smog in Sacramento with my k&n in 2021. Smog guy even made a note "intake OK"

I do still have the CARB sticker on the heat shield, maybe that helps.

The last time I had my truck smoged, they just checked the computer that all the monitors passed and the CEL wasn't on. They didn't look under the hood or under the truck at all.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe San Bernardino county has less strict smog check rules than LA county and others in CA.

There are some counties in CA that don't smog at all, usually pretty rural ones

Unsure of San Bernardino, but I can confirm in SD that they don't run the exhaust monitors anymore. They just check the computer.

As for the visual- In SD they look. How hard depends on the shop.

A friend had a shop pull all the serial / compliance numbers and run them, and failed him. Turned out the manufacture stamped the wrong number on the part, and my friend was hosed, it took him forever to get the paper work together to un-fuck that situation.

The previous time I got my smog, the shop was ROUGH.. they failed 5 people ahead of me on visual, and I thought for sure I'd be grouped into that, not sure how I passed with 20 years of random mods + fixes in the engine bay.. Completely different vibe in that same shop two years later.. so hit and miss I suppose.

While I can't say for sure if this is the same thing, but something similar happened to me several years ago.

Basically, they had just updated the CARB code, and the reference number was no longer valid, so I needed a new sticker with the updated number. It was free, and the smog tech even told me that he was sure it was fine, but it just failed the visual because of that.

All I had to do was call K&N and get a new sticker with the current number on it.

Having moved to El Dorado County, I'm actually not sure if I need a SMOG. I find conflicting information out there, some say the entire county is expemt, others say certain zip codes. Guess I'll have to wait for when registration is due...

I just installed mine this morning. Better throttle response and low end. 20211006_131111.jpg
