I know this is a Tacoma forum so I'm sure there's justifiable bias but does this sound like a crazy swap? As a Raptor owner for the last 3 years I'm considering selling it for a 2017 TRD Pro. Love the Raptor but I think I'm ready for a midsize truck that is similar to the Raptor in terms of features/capabilities. Has anyone else in this forum made a similar switch?

Not saying you shouldn't swap, I don't know your needs.

But a Tacoma is not a downsized Raptor.

If you choose to proceed, know what you are getting for your $ delta on a Pro vs another gussied up variant.

To me the Pro is overpriced. All for a couple of 'hot' colors.

The Tacoma doesn't hold a candle to the Raptor power-wise....that will be quite the downgrade. Of course that would be expected going from a full size to a mid-size, but still. As said above, we don't know your needs. The Tacoma is (IMO) a better off-road vehicle.

Smaller and more maneuverable for sure which is a bonus in many offroad situations. Part of me wishes the stock spec'd taco did have a bit more get up and go like a V8 or the turbo charged V6 in the new Raptor.

If you don't mind the loss in power /torque and interior space - get the Taco.
Everyone and their sister have a Raptor now also. + 5 cool points .

Plenty of people have done it. Or own both. Whether it be a raptor or f150.

It's a shame the "Magnuson" SC'er kit is more expensive than the "TRD" SC'er even though they are identical. Supply and demand I suppose.

If you are a power junky, you might look at a 2015 TRD Pro which has an available supercharger. Of course you can just as easily get a standard off road and lift it rather than paying the premium for the pro.

True, you can get it without the tuner and just do the OEM reflash and save a few hundred off the Magnuson price.

I wouldn't even consider taking a Raptor down some of the trails I have taken with my Tacoma. Some places I don't think a full size would even fit?

I think you would be disappointed. The raptor is a far superior truck in nearly every way. But if you want a great midsized truck then the offroad or pro is great.

They don't make a supercharger yet for the 3rd gen unless I'm mistaken

Considering I have both, well it's not a pro but an OffRoad Edition Tacoma. You are trying to compare day to night. Yes, they both have off road capabilities, but it is a different type of offroading for each. (Speaking from the Factory) The Raptor came from Baja racing and the Tacoma feel like it came more from overland driving. There are noticeable differences between the two, for example cabin space in the rear is less in the Tacoma, as well as power (this can be upgraded, but so can the Raptors), I have about $15K nvested into my Tacoma just to be able to do the next Raptor Run with my wife and her Raptor. If you can I would say keep the Raptor if you run the Raptor as intended, if you really have your mind set on a Taco and understand it won't be a Raptor right out of the box, then I say pull the trigger. They are a fun little truck, just not a Raptor fun (out of the box)20160517_200520.jpg

What kind of upgrades do you have on your tacoma? It appears mostly stock, which suggests its a sleeper.

Oh, no that is an old picture from when I first got it. Right now it's at Baja Kits getting Boxed Upper Control Arms, Boxed Lower Control Arms, Custom Heat Treated Axles, Heims, Monoballs, Misalignments, Extended Brake Lines, Steering extension, King 2.5" Performance Race Coilover w/ Remote Reservoir and Compression Adjusters,
King 2.5" Bypass Performance Race w/a 10" stroke piggyback, King 2.5" Remote Reservoir Shock w/adjusters with under the box hoops, KING 2.5" Bumpstops with cans, Leaf spring pack, Shackles, Spring plates, Perch mount, Under the axel leaf spring mounts, Method MR105 bead lockwheels, and 5 Pittbull 35x12.5x17 Rockstar tires
It has installed already McNeil Racing 6"+ fenders, a C4 Fabrication bumper that was modified by Miller Fab to fit the 6" fenders, a 12K smittybilt winch, baja design flush mount flood squadrons, Baja design spot pod squadrons, Baja design onx6 race series 20" spot light bar, 50" Rough Country X5 roof light bar mounted on Rago lightbar mounts, and a RCI drop axel skid plate. Here is a picture a day or two before it left for Cali. 20160827_164555.jpg 20160827_174430.jpg

Future upgrades include: a bed cage with a through the bed rear suspension, 6" rear fenders to match the front, a C4 Fab hi clearance rear bumper modified to match the bed sides, a 4.88 gear, and a twin turbo set up. This will all probably start at the beginning of next year, since I promised the wife 6 months of no spending on my truck. I can probably get the 4.88 Gear since I am going to kind of need it for the 35" tires.

These are 35" Pitbull Rockstars in case you don't want to Google them. Oh and Iforgot to add it has C4 Fab rock sliders.20160629_095423.jpg
