Is it just me or has the pricing on new Tacoma’s, specifically TRD off road and sport models, gone up since the whole pandemic? It’s hard to believe the prices haven’t dropped due to decreased sales. For someone looking to buy, would you say price drops are coming or take advantage of the current rebate and promotional pricing?

2020 DCSB 4X4 OR base MSRP is $36,965. Same as it was when I bought mine in November 2019.
The rebate has gone up though. It was $1,000, now it's $1,750.

I could be wrong, but from what I am seeing, you get 1 or the other offer. You could take the 0% financing or the $1750 cash back. It doesn't appear to be that you can get both offers together. I could be wrong though. I just picked up my 20 cement off road long bed and I took the 0%. They took $2000 off of MSRP and my 10 sport DC long bed was booked at $14,500ish. They gave me $16,500 on trade. I was pretty happy with the deal. I don't know if waiting will get you bigger discounts. I would bet they aren't sending much out of any of the assembly plants right now. Probably more focused on getting rid of inventory sitting on the lots.

I have seen some decent discounts in my area. Cargurus will show some discounts as well as dealer sites, but emailing them for a "Todays Price" or "E-Price" will usually net a higher savings. The best factor though is walking in and dealing face to face when they have you in a situation where you can sign a deal. There are a lot of videos online regarding negotiations and how to get better deals, what to avoid, how to spot inflated costs. I used to hate going to a dealership to negotiate, but now it is a challenge and almost fun to see how low you can them.

Most of the online/email request discounts I have been seeing are $4-6K off msrp. Example, I just received a quote for a DCSB OR msrp $39113, first e-offer was at $33113 +TTL. The rest is done at the dealership during a face to face. Let them bring you the first deal as a starting point and you can go from there. Go in knowing what your trade-in value range is for your current vehicle, check payment pricing for loan amount on places like Credit Karmas simple loan calculator. Also, keep an eye out for added fees and items you dont want. My last purchase included (4) delivery charges on the first proposal. It was insane as Toyota includes that on the Monroney.

Waiting until the end of the month is always best as they are trying to meet sales quotas for the month. And play dealers against each other to get better deals. Get e-quotes from multiple and then you can share them with other dealers. One of the best things I received was a trade in value for my 2018 Taco. They showed me a very low number referring to "this is what we could have sold the truck for", their bottom line. So now I use that as my target price. FWIW, it was a 2018 DCSB OR with tech package. The sticker was around $38k and the dealer said their bottom line was $31xxx.

As for the finance offers vs rebates, I think that is up to the dealers. If you pressure them enough, I think you may be able to swing the rebate with the apr you want. But I havent tested that as I have focused on the OTD price and loan payment price most.

Hope this helps and wasnt too much info..

Don't know if the msrp has gone up, but the dealers here use to be willing to go down an extra $500 beyond their normal discounted price. With such few trucks in their inventory now they are getting all they can.

Prices still the same here in San Diego. Also just got an email that they are doing $1750 back or 0% financing which is better than when I got mine before all this started. I would still say try and go through Costco if you have a membership as that is what I did and got my loaded OR out the door under MSRP.

From Toyota's perspective, I imagine it's lot like Disney in a way -- the high demand will always be there, pandemic or not because the product is solid. They can ride this out and are probably banking on pent up demand after things start to recover.

From the dealerships' perspective, I imagine the discounts will depend on each dealership's lot inventory and financial situation at any given time. If the shutdown continues well into summer, things will probably start to get a little tight and we will see more dealer discounts. But for now, they're probably banking on a late model year sale surge, assuming things start to return to normal by June/July.

Have they shut down the plants for the virus? That would increase demand no?

It isn't about demand. It is about the 25 million people that aren't working. Hard to qualify for a loan without a job.

Factory has been shut down since late March. Scheduled to begin reopening on Monday May 11.

    https://www.toyota.com/toyota-covid-19-response/

Demand is unaffected by the shutdown, but supply would decrease.

The MSRP isn't going to change at all. If anything it just means you may be able to haggle a better deal from the salesman.
