I have an 07 tacoma access cab (base model 4 cyl.) I would like to improve the quality of my ride. I"m tired of "feeling the road" so much. There is a thread from 2011 which discusses using 5100's all around. I don't know what 5100's are accept that 5100 probably refers to a type of shock absorber. Would someone please elaborate? What are the current options for improving the ride? I don't mind introducing some lift into my truck.

    Thank you for your consideration,
    Marc

Marc, the big problem is our trucks just don't weigh that much to ride nicely. A car like ride is likely not available, but it can soften up.

Your truck, is it a 5 lug base or 6 lug base model?

Trd S\C with nosecone hybrid bearing upgrade kit. 2.0 urd pulley, 7th injector kit-urd "6 fabtech lift with 3" body lift. 20" XD spy wheels with toyo open country r\t's in 37"x 12.50x20. Front and rear diffs re-geared to 4.88 dirty 30 drive axles. and a rhino pack clutch. Custom exhaust and huge mudflaps!
change your suspension. try and use a hydro-filled dual dampening shock. Like a Monroe-sensa track. You can also put on a rear sway bar and link kit. Then only things to do is increase tire sidewall and swap the seats. there is a fine line on the tire pressure.....29lbs is to soft and squishy-but rides good and 40 is to rough-but better mileage and handling.

I like a race seat with "jap" memory foam......Surprisingly comfortable. And i added heatind pads to the top back portion and the lower seat.

These seats are made to my body and back dimensions. Special ordered took 6 month so they didn't cost much more than the regular ones they sell. Cipher racing.

bilstein makes a shock and strut for race car dynamics; this is why you see them sometimes branded as bilstein/RCD. this is the bilstein 5100 shock/strut you're hearing about and while it won't ride like a caddy, they will most likely be an improvement to an old worn out suspension. you can get these and not lift your truck by getting an OME spring that doesn't really provide any lift or use your stock springs. if your leafs are negatively arched or sagging you can buy replacement leaf packs from wheeler's off road i believe.

Hello All, Thanks for all the feedback,

    PeeRunner,
It is a 5 lug base model. How does this effect my choices.

    To all,
The Edmund's article refers to eibach shocks, as well as adjustable shocks. I like the idea of having control over the suspension.
