Awesome thanks, do you have a recommendation for pipe bender or type of welder?

I’m partial to the JD Squared benders and as for a welder I’ve always liked Miller welders but the market has grown with some great low cost welders. Just do some research and I’m sure you’ll find one in your price range.

If you’re in my area I’m willing to build one for a fair price. If you want to message me we can work something out.

    Nice job on the rack!

I made my own rack as well and considered doing the same with the tire hoist. I decided not to since I wanted a super low profile rack and I was also concerned about the strength of the hoist. It's designed for a light weight stock size tire. Do you think it will hold the weight of a 35" or 37" tire? I see you have a strap holding the tire as well, that's probably a smart way to secure it so the weight isn't solely on the hoist. Also, is there room between the hoist and back window for a larger tire if you choose to use larger tires in the future?

Yes I didn’t want the hoist to be the only thing to hold the tire. If I were to move the hoist towards the back of the truck an 1” or two it will accommodate a larger tire. I have a stopper to provent the tire from ever going into my back window. D085B791-C52F-455C-8AE1-8DA0B8435E91.jpg

Thanks. San Diego is a great place to visit and pick up a rack at the same time. Lol

Nice job on the front tire stop. I wouldn't have thought of it until it crashed through the back window. I just need your LB version. Looks great.

I'm happy to say the first person I made a custom bed rack for, loves it. He came early today to pick it up and I helped him put it on. I’m sure he’ll get a lot of use out of it. I look forward to seeing it painted and with his RTT mounted. Thanks Murdoch33 it was a pleasure working with you. It's getting there.
Another welder coming in to hijack. I built a rack for my truck and I'm going to concede superiority here. The shop I have and the welding I'm set up to do does not have the tools for all the tube bending that this ace has done.

I think I'm going to have to invest in a serious tubing bender though because I'm really liking the design of this rack. I used the same angle iron set up for my bed mounting. Here's a few pictures.

Thanks I’m glad you like the design. I do like your idea of using slotted holes for the angle iron brackets. Don’t think I’ll be able to do that but it’s a good idea.

After going about how to do this and trying to get with a machinist buddy, or some time on the mill at my old job, I just said fuck it and drilled out 'end holes' and then cut the slot in with a 0.45 wheel on the grinder.

By the way, did you TIG all your joints or just tack and then run them with MIG off the truck?
