There are probably a dozen or more combinations, I just need more information so I can give you an answer. There are information links in the first post that will help you with the standard terminology of the available options. When you say "delrin insert", that can mean 4 things to me. Just looking for more specificity.

You can even tell me the desired knob weight, and I will let you know what is in a given ballpark of that.

Okay, just going to leave it there with those 6 examples. I have 12 more renderings made up, but don't want to get too cluttered and will just use the others if they are requested.

It is true, I just started using Inventor and it's incredibly powerful.

Now we can thank Autodesk for making "shift knob stripteasing" a thing.

Oh yeah. SolidWorks is similar. Easy exploded views, animations, and moving part demos really help with the understanding.

Does AutoDesk have similar startup licensing for Inventor like they do with Fusion?

Solidworks is likely what I will get when my 3 year Inventor license runs out. Autodesk is pretty slimy with their subscription model, but I will hold out paying $4k (SW cost) for as long as possible.

All the big companies are slimy when it comes to licensing. But then, users like me set that groundwork decades ago with unrestricted 'sharing.' It might have been the ease of copying magnetic media (disks and cassette tapes) that lit the fuse? I surely didn't want to buy Strip Poker for my Commodore64.

It is hard to win back the costs, esp with maint subscription requirements.

    lmao

It's incredibly competitive on the CAM side of things. Here is an awesome article (old but still true) if you want to be bored to tears about it. I imagine the CAD side is quite similar. I get why things are the way they are, but SW has maintained their perpetual licensing for a very long time. I have a lot of respect for that.

Yep. Same on the CAD side, since it also engineers in obsolescence. All those libraries need to be current.

My old company got hosed with an SW perpetual license. When XP support was stopped, we couldn't load Win10 on it as SW wouldn't work. They refused to give us a patched version without purchasing a new full version. With the Vista fiasco and having a really tight IT budget ( $0.00 ), we were caught flat-footed. I'm pretty certain that they're probably still running that version on XP.

That is so stupid. Makes a good case for keeping up on the maintenance fee, but even those are going up. Mastercam went up like 25% this year. We're still running the 2017 version, and I think it was $30k for just my one seat. If we ever need to update our "perpetual" license we would have to pay every year of maintenance fee since we last upped it (about $1800 per year now).

During the original purchase, we told the reseller that we just wanted the license and no extended support. It was just assumed that we would get reasonable patches that would allow us to keep using it.

But then, we also were hosed when buying maint also. A customer required PTC MathCAD. We bought a license with maintenance. We never received a single patch that whole year even with their new, buggy Prime version. We were perpetually on their call list though. I just got a call a month or so ago. It was fun telling them that I am no longer there.

The maint cost increases are getting uglier than the version purchase. Fuck!

I was a total SW pirateer back in the C64 days...then followed up with the likes of leisure suit Larry. And that's when 5 1/4 floppies were like 8 bux a piece so you'd use a hole punch and nip the notch on the side for double sided. Fvck I'm old. I used punch cards as well
