I wouldn't worry. Anybody who wants one, is going to get one. I had some minor launching issues the first time around, and I believe 5 or 6 that went out initially needed modification. I'm trying to avoid that if I can. I'm borderline OCD about it, actually.

Okay, to the four guys waiting on the MT knobs ... now is the time to finalize your engraving plans if you have not already. The mill is still busy, but it should be free by tomorrow. Hopefully these can all ship within the next day or two.

I'm just patiently waiting at this point. I've got the rest of my new AT shift knob project done. Just waiting on this final piece and then it's all done and ready to be installed! The trick is to keep forgetting this thread exists until someone posts something new and I think it's 7r41lbr34k3r saying the next batch is ready to go. :spending:

Okay, all hybrid MT knobs are shipped. I'll leave it up to each owner as to whether they will loctite the core to the outer shell. I don't think there is a "one size fits all" solution for that, so that is my reasoning. Mine has held snug, but has come loose a couple of times after a cold night. I will probably loctite mine at some point, but for now I am not bothered enough.

Also, I was unable to reliably test fit the boot connection for this last shipment ... because my boot is so worn at this point that I can't even get a good fit with my stock knob anymore. I can't imagine it will change, considering all dimensions are the same.

I went ahead and ordered another boot for myself, as well as a boot for the AT. That should speed things up a bit for the automatic project.

Is it possible that those of us with hybrids, could possibly get a Delrin knob in the future to fit? Nothing like having more options to run in the future shall our hearts desire.:D :burnrubber:

Yep, this will be a modular setup for sure.

There is a lot more room for increasing the custom options, but I'm going to resist those urges until after the first successful AT run.

Actually, this is a enticing idea (not me Rick, I'm solid!). But it would be very unique. A modular shift knob with built in shift boot collar wear delete option. Common core (AL) size dimension with one time integration to boot collar (buy once) so it doesn't wear out the plastic collar, with interchangeable outer ball swaps to common core thread. Then the outer ball material is interchangeable based on mood.

Think of it as the "Pandora" of shift knobs!

    Aaaaaannnnnnddddd, I'm high...lol

But it is a very unique concept if ya think aboot it

Some progress today. Aluminum core is complete, bolted to the boot retainer. I should be able to knock out the rest tomorrow.

The stripping/sand blasting phase before the Cerakote process is done. Although it was bare aluminum and 74r1 actually polished my knob by hand :p to ensure a great application surface, my guy goes into great detail. The end quality shows it. No other cerakoter I’ve used (including some top class well known pro shops) touches his quality of work, prices or turn around time.

Lighting in Photo isnt best but this should match the grey trim just right :D
I’ll be doing the red color fill myself when it gets in this week. Might even add some custom rubber grip sections.

Can't really finish the sphere on the knob until I get bolts that are appropriate for my fixtures (AT fixture is the one of the left, made one up for MT as well). Also an extra aluminum core in the pic, because I processed two of them.

The longer bolts should be in my hands later today, and my new boots should arrive tomorrow.

AT guys won't have to worry about using loc-tite to hold the knob onto the core. Simply tightening the bolts on the plastic retainer puts enough back pressure on the threads to give a firm hold. For this reason, I'm also going to buy some lubricant, and these will ship pre-lubed. The pitch of the thread is so fine (28TPI), that the chances of galling is up significantly.

Finished up the rest of my project. Just need to order one of those AT boot retainers and screw that into the bottom and then it's done. Looking great though, guys! 7.jpg

We're getting there. In fact, that plastic retainer is the only thing left to prove out. Full 360 degrees of "knurl" is also proven out, and it's the same process for both AT/MT. This has hatches every 5 degrees, looks about perfect to me. Total height is 1", or a half inch from each side of the sphere centerline.

I think the knurl effect is only going to be available for delrin and aluminum. Stainless would eat up the tools way too quickly for it to be worth it.

So, apparently I'm stupid ... Automatic shift boot ended up coming as a parking brake boot. I guess I'm terrible at parts assembly diagrams.

I also got the wrong color, but at least they are both black. Turned out to be a nice upgrade from gray.

I'm just going to send the prototype to @Chief Taco for the fit test, unless somebody can find the right part number for me before Monday.

Also, now that I have a new MT collar, I can see areas that could use minor revisions for the MT retainer.
