It's a pretty fine pitch thread, and there isn't much tolerance to work with. Even though I cut them on the high end of the tolerance I just don't think it's enough to accept coating.

Cerakote is a few thou. I doubt it's that, maybe OP cuts threads with super high precision.

Another theory I have, is cerakoting over the Teflon insert. It may have flaked off from there when it was tightened. Or, there was some debris in there. Possibly coated over blast media?

All we can do is speculate until we get more info, really.

Still, best practice is always to mask threads unless there is good reason not to. I would never introduce more potential opportunities for failure unless the reward was worth the risk.

No debris in there that I’m aware of. Also nothing was coated over the blast media. Everything was stripped down to the max before application. Maybe the threading got cross threaded somehow. Does the inner core have reverse threading? I can turn it a tiny bit left and right and that’s it.

    All threads are right handed.

Did you directly blast the threads(part pictured on the left?) If so, wouldn't have blasted them.. I've done that to threads presviously and it just galled them up trying to thread in.

I didn’t apply it, a buddy did. His work is second to none though so i imagine he didn’t do anything he should have. I have a variety of threaded items coated before including some super tight tolerance areas by him with no issues. I was able to screw the inner core into the knob
No problem several times before installing it.

Just a post to keep updated about the AT dealio. @7r41lbr34k3r do you have any instructions about removal of the auto assembly? If it isnt too bad ill take mine off, remove the chrome ring and ship it to you for prototyping. no sense in buying a whole assembly for just that.

This .pdf looks pretty good for removal instruction.

As for sending me the chrome ring, I have two ahead of you that offered to send theirs. I will be in touch, should those other folks change their mind. Thank you!

Speaking of chrome rings, I just noticed ...

    Exclusive SR swag blackout!

I wish they blacked out the SR manuals. I have a chrome ring on my shifter, and around my cup holders ... but nowhere else on the truck. Really looks out of place. Plus, I get an annoying glare on the passenger side window from the cup holder trim. Not to worry though, now that I have my brake controller installed, there is now a glare on the driver side to balance it out.

Props to @shawnkc10fe, with this part I was able to nail the dimensions for the weird shape. Printed out the cad shape 1:1 scale and fiddled with it until everything lined up. There are several sheets/attempts beneath that, as you can probably see through the top layer to the previous attempt.

I also increased this chamfer a bit. It was bordering on correct, but was too close for comfort and probably contributed to the stiffness of the first test fit.

Speaking of stiff, something I noticed this morning ...

It was probably the same genius that did the molds for the gauge cluster support with the Taco Truck symbol in it.

A bar of titanium the size of that black delrin would cost roughly $3,000 USD. ====*
