For anyone curious about installation, it's a breeze. You just pry the center console at the front lip of the armrest box and the whole assembly will pop off with no tools.

I would recommend if you use a knob like this that you use a quality ziptie. I used a cheap 50lb zip tie and I can feel the hard nub through the leather boot, which bugs the hell out of me. YMMV. Toyota uses special low-profile zip ties and installs them upside down, with the nub facing inwards.

You can get the same style zip ties that Toyota uses online. They're called Panduit Contour-Ty. You want the tiny 18lb test ones. This week I'll take it back apart and put one of those zip ties in.

Rick, thanks again for the commissioned art. The workmanship, fit and finish are spectacular.

Now, about that white gold version. Lol

Now there's several people on here with a better knob than I have for myself (IMO).

I need to dream something up.

Top left of the OP is mine.

Hardened 440C shell w/ Ti core.

The color in the lettering is just discoloration from the heat treat oven.

Now I want titanium with a knurled delrin ring, but I think I'll wait until I design my own collar before I do that.

The extra black zone at the bottom of the AT knob really completes the aesthetic (for my taste anyway). So, naturally I plan to carry this over to the MT designs.

You will all see this when @tacopromatt posts pictures of his AT knob. Thing is bad ass, but I'll not steal his thunder by showing it off.

Some action shots of Teeco's knob. Actually milled the boot area and all internals at home on my little 1hp bench top mill. It is a manual machine converted to a 4 axis CNC, but I left the functionality of the manual quill. With titanium, drilling is a total nightmare .. and doing that process manually enables me to literally feel what is going on.

Obsessing over the most critical tolerance. Anything less than .155 bad things happen ... I like .157-.159. In the future I might actually oversize this, and build it back up with liquid shim (clear nail polish). Or, start printing it much like the AT knob. Metal knob vs plastic collar is no contest, and I like to be transparent about that. I do what I can to protect that $85 collar.

    Weight within 10g of estimate.

My usual pic lighting for reference, and a straighter look at the side engraving.

A lot of the enjoyment of getting a custom knob from Rick is the process...coming up with ideas and conveying them to someone you have never met, who you don't even KNOW, and seeing that relay of ideas and concepts come to fruition. I think this is what Rick really excels at, nevermind the actual skill set required to turn out the physical product.

I love hearing the backstories of the individual processes like you did here Rick, keep it up.

Can't recommend enough...if you are thinking of a custom knob, you cannot go wrong choosing this avenue.

I have to come up with a "business" name at some point. Jeremiah Miyagi Customs has an ... interesting ring to it.

Soooooo ... I think I came up with a collar design today.

The set screw will face the front of the truck, but I rotated it for the pictures.

Oh look, we have engrave-able collars now.

All machined lathe blanks would be the same dimensions as the original, and anyone with a hybrid shell can convert with a new core and collar combo.

This rendering uses a 10-32 x 3/16" long half dog set screw.

I'd have to check to be sure, but it should also work for 2nd Gen.

Lemme see if I follow...this is a replacement collar (more durable) that will fit retroactively to MY new Ti knob?

Not this particular collar, but I could make one similar for the original style. I'm guessing an off center 6-32 set screw would be the only fastening option, and you wouldn't be able to hide it around the back (because there is a void there).

Would have to come up with a different fastening solution.
