Yeah, that original knob was a disgrace. Could never get it tight enough to properly hook up the meat grinder attachment, broke the black plastic part instantly and just used vise grips on the insert after that.

The replacement knob is bigger (about 1" diameter), so you can really torque it nicely.

All this talk of Ti. @TeecoTaco must be wetting himself just from the good vibrations?

    You know it.

I can make them out of stainless, too .. obviously. Just throwing that out there so he can reject it.

Stainless. Pfft! Some say that @TeecoTaco does lines of powdered Ti. All that we know is that he is the sTig?

Haha, I like that tech has reached the point to legitimize the Ti powder part (i.e. powder bed fusion).

Some say he also doesn't know what ducks are.

Yeah. My neighbor is working on his Masters in additive manufacturing. He showed me a couple amazing Ti parts. Desktop metal is really just around the corner.

Yep, we (at work anyway) have at least 2 machines in Iowa now ... more coming in from what I hear. Still waiting to be invited out there to check them out.

The real hitters will be the ones that will eventually make it your way. The porosity is pretty bad on these first gen machines. If they can improve upon that, I will get really excited.

Yep, which is why I have no fear that my career in subtractive will not go away any time soon. I feel there is a long way to go before we can get the materials to the point to when they can hold their own properties in a print.

Neat stuff though, and we'll get there ... probably even end up an improvement to subtractive in the long run.

Very true. Subtractive is not going to be majorly threatened by additive processes, esp on repetivity and large items. They will end up complimenting each other.

I actually want to grab a regular printer for purposes of fixturing at some point. Cutting forces aren't all that crazy in the garage, would be nice to create a plane on a compound angle (usually for drilling weird holes), much cheaper than buying a sine plate that will rarely get used. Accuracy will be good enough for my needs. I can think of about 10 more things along these lines I could use it for as well.

There is that. The nice thing about AM is that you can make big, gnarly chunks of stuff for strength where you need it. Then, refine it later.

I love the automatic knob you are showing on post #1, any estimate when that would be available again for purchase?

I don't want to make any promises as my schedule is looking a bit crazy until the end of this month, but it will surely be at least 3-4 weeks before I have any ready for purchase.

    Man these are awesome!

I'd love one for an automatic with the Army logo below.

Will you have full delrin V2 knobs?

I can do that. Might take a little editing, but very doable.

I have a general custom fee of $45, more than that if I need to do actual design work. If it is so basic that it only takes a few minutes to process it, I generally do not even charge (many will vouch for me on that if they are still reading this thread).

Worst case scenario that I have seen in the past. I got a really bad .jpeg file that I had to clean up using both photoshop and inkscape. Then I had to edit the crap out of the .svg file output from inkscape and into my CAD/CAM program just so I could pull a toolpath from it. It had so many lines to click for a toolpath that it had me pulling my hair out (think it was close to 400 curves).

The folks who design their own and send me a usable file format are my heros, and if the design goes into Aluminum or Delrin I give them a freebie for doing the legwork.

I have never made a solid delrin V2 to date, so I did not plan on including those in my inventory.
