Almost forgot I still have this V1 aluminum / delrin knob.
It’s been in a box ever since I found a new love for Ti.

Ricks stuff is always worth the wait.

Brought them all back out for the photo. Lots of smaller parts not shown, making good progress.

Just saw this, lol. It turns out powdered Titanium is extremely dangerous. I do work at a recycling facility that deals exclusively with Titanium alloys. Mostly CNC turnings and millings, but some large solids. The entire facility is covered with titanium dust/fines. The place catches on fire on an almost weekly basis. I don't know how they haven't been shut down yet.

They look awesome all lined up. Are you doing this all manually with a ball turning jig? I just assumed you had this set up on a CNC somewhere.

I'll sell you a half complete knob for half off!

I use both, actually. For the bottom profile it is all done using my CNC mill, err ... as a lathe. The knob goes in the spindle, lathe tool held in a vise and I just code it by hand with radial X values. Y0 sets tool center, and work offsets (G54, etc..) are needed for each tool. I actually set up a gang drilling station in a second vise for the solid V2 AT knobs this time around. Was pretty bad ass.

Stainless and Ti I rough the bottom side contour in manually and finish via CNC.

Here is a video of a finish pass.

First post of this thread shows pictures at the very top. Far left side is manually roughed contour. 3rd pic from the left shows my manual radii cutter. I use that Holdridge 3-D for all of top sphere and delrin ring turning.

I used to do it all manually, but I got tired of fiddling with multiple setups with the holdridge cutter.

    [/TMI]

But yeah, this all started on industrial CNC equipment until I built the garage shop about a year ago.

For Ti or SS you would need to be in my custom order queue. Currently have 3, working on two and 1 on deck.
