Hey guys, always grateful for your input.
Does anyone have any thoughts here? Especially when running a lift. Seems like traction bars help a lot with axle wrap and come at about half the cost. Or is it worth it to spend the extra $$ to get a custom fit driveshaft?
    Thanks :mudding:

A custom driveshaft isn’t going to help with axle wrap...

It might help get rid of some drive line vibes by going to a one piece and getting rid of the center bearing.

I didn’t care about axle wrap when I got the traction bar. I wanted it to protect my expensive one piece driveshaft when rock crawling.

But, it helped enough with axle wrap to put all of the power and torque from the Supercharger and 35s (at the time) into the rear diff, breaking it twice...

    That’s why I did the Dana 60.

As far as traction bars go, I would not use one of those ones where the brackets bolt to the third member bolts. Mine is custom and the brackets are welded the the axle housing.

This is the 60, but I had the same traction bar on the factory rear.

    Good luck with it.

If it is for vibes .. Get the Dan woods shaft or have local shop flip the back shaft and put a double cardon in.

    Correction Tom Woods..

Holy - that's a torque arm, not a traction bar. Just so you know.

Traction bar is bolted to either the axle tube or the spring perch, is free floating in the front, and is just long enough that it hits the front of the spring pack during axle wrap. What's in that pic is a very long arm bolted to the center section with a mounting point far forward. It's a torque arm in every other segment of the auto community. But I get that things get named and that's just how it is.

I thought trac bars bolted to the spring perches one on each side

mine is welded to the rear axle pumpkin and a bolt on assembly near the carrier. my truck isnt the most badass but its a modified s/c truck. for those wondering this is a great mod. and budbuilt makes a great product. when i called for a hiccup their customer service was a 10. guy even offered his personal cell if i was amindst problems during install. this allows me to do knarly, controlled burnouts. no wrap, noise, just awesome.

i think all toyotas could benefit from one. i just like drag style launches with axle control.

I think that's really a torque arm. Very similar to what Mazda calls a 'power plant frame' on a Miata.

@HolyHandGrenade you are a much better builder / fabricator that I even dream of being. I'm not tossing this out to be argumentative, just to help @icky crane be sure he gets his terms straight, in case he walks into a shop asking about such things.

I was only using the common terminology of TW. People here call them traction bars, so I didn’t want to muddy the waters.

Kind of like spindles VS knuckles

i appreciate the polite education. these yellow stability bars would be great for 2wd. having 1 control point near center allows for axle articulation to my best understanding.

I'm just one of those weirdos that call the dampers in a Tacoma style coil-over-shock double wishbone IFS 'shocks' instead of 'struts' or 'coilovers'. And having done a little Miata modification / racing, your cool pic just caught my eye, along with the term. :D :anonymous:
