I am wanting to make a custom gear shift knob....I 3D printed something, and just trying to figure out the best way to attach it. Do you just screw it on?...does it need a hilt so to speak?...i don't want it to sit too low. I do have a spare knob coming, so if I need to cut one up, i have that option.

    Truck is an automatic

I don't have the answer to your question but is your truck an automatic or manual?

    That's cool AF!

    Its an Auto

Thanks...my Taco is a "stormtrooper" edition, i made custom bedside decals as well....thought this would be the perfect addition. I still need to apply resin, sand and paint.

The factory auto shift knob just screws off of the handle, leaving the threads on the handle exposed ... so if you find a threaded spacer (McMaster-Carr) of an appropriate length you could screw that onto the shifter handle, drill a small hole into your new shift knob and fill that with superglue or something similar to hold the knob in place.

They just screw on ..... would suggest taping it with the same size thread count as the shifter. When you remove your existing knob measure the size and thread count and walla your done!

A set screw would hold it.

Go to a bolt supply store. They sell coupling nuts. You can epoxy that in place. It works well, I've done it on a few.
