Holy Crap!

That was fast!

1 week from ordering to shipping!
Shipped this Monday and I got it Friday (Today) and that was to Canada!

I was all set to make a box to Acetone fog these parts in to get them really smooth..
BUT they don't need it!
These were astonishingly smooth for 3D printed parts!
The fake knurling came out great and your attention to detail make these look like OEM!
Even the little allen bolts have a hex in them.
Followed the factory surfaces and intersections like you used the original model from Toyota.
You sir spent a LOT of time on that CAD model.

Well I was supposed to be putting the upstairs bathroom together today... ooops not happening,

Gave everything a quick smoothing sand with 320 and 2 coats of Tamaiya Fine Fill primer for ABS and now waiting for it to dry before giving them another quick sand and another 2 coats of primer.

First coart of Primer.

 

Also, check state statutes for light restrictions on vehicles:

...”For safety or other emergency reasons, the laws generally restrict the color and type of accent lights a driver may add to a car. While yellow and amber neon lights are generally accepted in most places, red and blue lights are often restricted because of its common use on police cars...”

The first black one is finished.

 

For the lettering I gave it two coats of Red for the Sport and 2 coats of Silver for the TRD.

Let it dry for an hour then coated with a clear coat mixed with black.
Sorry for Iphone potato pics but it gives it a translucent smoked red/silver look. That goes from red to black depending what angle you look at it.



The back piece has been painted Matte Black,
I set a big T and a small S in it to see how this is going to look.



This camera is not catching it at all but you can see the T has a smoked silver look and the red is all smoked now too,

Depending what angle you look at it the T and the S change colour from dark Red/Silver to black.



Now to let everything harden up.
Then wetsand all the letters and "outer frame" with 600 grit paper
Paint the backplate with 4 coats of matte clear coat.
Mask off the center "knurled" area of the backplate.
Sand the "outer frame" with 600.
Spray the outer fram eand end-piece with 202 Toyota Gloss black
Sand the outer frame with 600.
Spray the outer frame, end-piece and letters with 4 coats of high gloss clear.
let harden for a week.
Polish and buff.
Coat with Cquartz.

Lol I spent more on the paint products than what you quoted to sand and paint it for me.

Low fill primer
Matte Black
202 Gloss Black
Matte Clear Coat
Gloss Clear coat
Silver
Red
Smoked Effects Clear Coat

I'll definitely have to get a better camera for the next stage of pics, these things are coming out SWEEEEEEET!

I'd love to do painting but I just don't have free time right now. Back to work next week and still have house renovations to finish before the wife kills me.

Well the letters are done and all the Matt clear coats on the letters.

Gloss black around the edge and end pieces are done and all sanded down with 1000 grit.
The center of the back pieces is still masked off as I'll be shooting the gloss clear coats on them in the morning.



I set the letters on the masked off back plates to have a better perspective on the contrast.


The Matte clearcoat gave the letters an anodized look.
I'll probably shoot a couple more coats on the letters just for extra added long term UV protection.

I can't wait to take the tape off ... but have to wait until I shoot the final coats of clear gloss.

Again potato camera pics but everything has been polished with 1000 grit so it looks more like it was an injection molded part.



5 or 6 coats of clear will give it a real deep gloss. That will really contrast with the matt gloss on the center "knurled" area.

 

Damn you’re right, they do look anodized! Amazing work!

Have you finalized a price on these?

 

In most cases the led backlit ones painted black are $400 for a set. If you interested in doing custom color paint or different lettering then there would be an additional cost. Or if you want non backlit, they would be considerably cheaper.

 

Guess I got to saving money again.

 

Yes sir! They aren’t cheap. And I wish I could sell them for less but these things take a long time to make. Especially the backlit ones.

 

Few distractions meant I could not work on them for a few days,
but final coats of paint are on,
then I just wait for the paint to harden,
final polish and Cquarts coating.
