I believe that was an error and he meant red map lights and a white dome light

I am sure you're right, it was me that was confused. Just wanted to be sure I was on the same page when the time comes to order.

I keep reading about red for night vision and believe there are some misconceptions. Might want to read this article at ITS Tactical for clarity. The author sites an additional article in his post that I recommend as well.

According to that, and many other similar sources, unless we can get @mesojdm to create green or blue versions, red is our next best choice at reducing the effect that white light has on our eyes in the dark.

Or did I misinterpret the article?

I am also basing all my previous statements on my own personal experiences both in the military and civilian life.

As a matter of fact, some smart phones and computer operating systems now offer blue light filters that will remove the blue/white spectrums resulting in a more reddish appearance to help to reduce eyestrain at night, and even with prolonged use during the day.

Plus, cmon', how can you say the red is just not cool as hell?

It was an error. I did mean red maps and white dome. Sorry for the confusion.

No harm, no foul. That's what makes forums like this one so great. The collective input is so varied that there's always going to be a lot of great information shared. What we do with it or how we treat it is up to us. I prefer to learn as much as I can from everyone and contribute when I can. When we're forced to do all this without our opinions included, or without mistakes made, I'll move on. I'm only human too.

Color is important, but brightness is also a factor. A super bright red can be just as bad as a dim warm white.

I'll agree with that. But I'll take my chances with the brighter red as my goal is to be able to see better to complete the task quicker so I can return to darkness sooner.

Actually the wife uses the map lights more than me for co-pilot duties so typically it is the passenger side being used more.

By the way, I really appreciate the back and forth because it helps me rehearse my script I'll need to use with my accountant. You know, "yes we need these bla bla bla safety bla bla bla".:D
