Custom LED Map and Dome lights

Got my red dome and white maps today!!!

 

Looking for reds, third gen taco

 

So I just installed my map and dome lights. For anyone who hasn't done so and is interested in any "gotachas", here some directions from a noob installer.

MAP: Pay attention to how you remove them. I used a pry tool (you can find them on Amazon or just use a guitar pick or some other thin hard plastic other than your credit card as that is too important and also not thin enough - metal may scratch the lenses) to remove the light cover. Pay attention to how you remove them (orientation wise). Hinges are towards the middle and the switch is on the outside, towards the front. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to get the old bulb out (because I didn't care about saving it). When you get ready to put the new one in, make sure you have the correct side (pay attention to the switch location). When you plug it in, the red wire goes towards the passenger side for both lights (it does matter - if you get the polarity wrong, the light won't come on). Make sure the light works after you plug it in, before you pop it into place. Took me about 10 minutes. Would have been less had I have been paying attention and didn't try putting the passenger map light in the drivers side!

DOME: straight forward. Use a pry tool as mentioned above, but also used a small flat head screw driver. I started by taking the side towards the front off (if you look at the factory cover, you will see two small notches where the 'latch' is - I used the pry tool just beside the notch and then used the screwdriver in the notch to pry the corner off). Once you get one corner started, it is pretty easy from there.

NOTE: If you use metal pliers on the factory bulbs, they may shatter if they are hot and you use the bare metal of the pliers to get them off (try some of the bubble wrap you got with your bulbs to "cushion" the pliers against the bulb after you have popped some bubbles - the plastic may melt, but it may help protect the bulb from shattering).

I'll probably get rid of my red dome if I can get my hands on the superdome!!

Is it possible to make ones that can be red or white?

 

I think Meso’s current plan is to have a dome and possibly maps that can change any color. Red, white, or chartreuse.

I saw someone post that the 3rd gen Taco domes fit 4th gen 4runners, can you confirm?

And are 3rd gen Taco domes any different than the 5th gen 4Runner ones you have?

 

When is the restock on the map and dome lights scheduled for the 2nd gens?

 

Been greatly enjoying the new white maps & domes. Mr Meso got them perfectly right for my taste.
