Custom LED Map and Dome lights

The link/thread I'm posting below is kinda old and not specifically about MESO leds, but felt I should share anyway. Please be careful when swapping out your dome/map lights. I'm not one to disconnect the battery when replacing light bulbs but after reading this entire thread, I'm not gonna take any chances when I install my MESO maps/dome leds.

I was so trying to hold out for the rave light, but I caved.

White dome and red maps achievement unlocked.

 

I didn’t know if I wanted red or white maps and red or white dome so I got both of each. I’m sure I can find a buddy who missed out on today to take the ones I don’t end up using.

 

So should we remove the battery before installing or will be ok just plug and play?

 

Aside from removing the light covers, adding these are no different than changing a burnt out bulb. Personally, I would not disconnect the battery for that. I’d say it’s totally your call.

Well going to injection molded helped make a bunch of them I’m sure.

 

Yes, it's completely optional. But if adding an extra minute to a bulb swap project (to remove the positive battery cable from the battery) could potentially save you major headaches, why not do it? Like I said before, I typically would not disconnect the battery to replace a bulb, but after reading what could happen, I'm gonna take that extra minute and avoid potential issues.

At a minimum, at least close the doors and wait for the lights to go out before doing the swap, that way there's no electricity going through that circuit.

 

Well I saw they were STILL up so I ordered some white maps to go with the red maps and dome I got earlier when they first went up. Was thinking of running one of each color in the maps and now I'll have the option. Hopefully @MESO will catch it when he goes through orders and be able to combine shipping, though I imagine it is only a couple bucks difference so nbd.

I am a little curious if those same people turn off a circuit breaker in a house to change a light bulb? I’ve been hit several times by a 120v outlet doing electrical work. Changing outlets or installing ceiling fans. Who couldn’t use a little pick me up? 208v and above would make me take more precaution.

 

When will both the lights for gen 2 Tacomas be available again?

 

It has absolutely nothing to do with hurting yourself, it's about damaging your truck. Did you read any of the posts?

 

@Tacospike apparently there was an issue people had where it blew a fuse and then somehow the bulb was always on unless in the off switch. Even doors closed truck locked, engine running, etc.. very strange issue.

Agreed, but with all the electronic bullshit in cars today it doesn’t surprise me, multiple people had the same issue after the fuse blew. Still strange to me.

 

Which fuse is it? I’d be more willing to pull the fuse than disconnect the battery...
