It's power on/off comes from the truck switch itself. I see what you're saying, but without some internal truck modification it won't work that way. The light is on the back end of the supply, you would have to jump it to do that. If that makes sense? I'm trying to word it right but not coming out that way..

The dome works just as the dome does now just switches colors or brightness.

Oh I am well aware of what would need to be done. Thats why I said "any chance you would make another version that has a button on a different power wire". Thus suggesting that I would run a additional power wire that would run the red led.

So, you want the Red light to default to White after use? You can have it your way if you leave it switched to White every time. :notsure: And, vice-versa

I think it would be a nice feature, but that just because when I have dome, and both maps lights, but 1 map is set to red, 1 is set to white, and the dome is set to what ever my kids pushed on it. Then I turn on all the lights hoping for white, but get a techno rave instead.

No no, I want white, white only and you turn on the overhead switch or open the doors. Then if you push just the button on the dome, it turns on red. As it sits now, I would turn on the lights via opening the door, then If the lights turned on red, but I wanted white, I have to push the dome light switch to change it to white.

The switch on the dome light I think should be independent of the white light. There would be a keyed on power wire run into the headliner (you install that) that wire is connected to the switch in the dome, and only controls the red. The white light is controlled by either the door open, or the "all lights on" button in the overhead console.

Got it. What about this idea, when @MESO releases the overhead panel with the hex pattern, you buy red "hex" lights that pop-in, and have them on a separate switch?

A relay for the dome light? No, I dont think so. The dome light doesnt pull nearly enough power to need a relay... its a dome light, not a 300 watt light bar.

I hear what you guys are saying.
As of right now, the dome light uses a mechanical relay(made in Japan:)) which will toggle between the 2 colors. The relay will stay latched to its last set position. Regardless if it has power coming into it or not.
In order to “default” back to white upon turning the truck off(cutting power) I would need to come up with a way for the relay to revert back to the “white” position. Haven’t really thought about it, but I’ll look into it. I just don’t want to create an issue for everyone else that wants it to stay in the last mode they set it to.

@MESO im not talking about default back to white with what I said, How others got that idea when I didnt even say it is beyond me.

Here is what I am saying

You have your dome light, just like your old one. It turns on and off in white, just like it always has.
Now, you add the red leds to the center like your new one, but they are not connected in anyway to the white ones. The red lights have a dedicated power wire run from the dash to the headliner. Now, you plug that dedicated power wire to the switch, and the switch controls the red and only the red.

I open my doors, its white, I push the "all on" button in the overhead center console, its white.
If I push the button (your button) on the dome light itself, regardless of the status of the white lights, the lights turn on red.

2 lights, 2 separate circuits, 2 separate buttons to turn each of the 2 different lights on. Neither the red or white will ever have any impact on turning on or off the other color.

Whites on? push the button on the dome light, white stays on, but red turns on also(I cant see any situation where you having the white lights on you would need to turn on the red also). Whites off? push the button on the dome light and red turns on. The button on the dome light controls turning red on and off only, it doesnt do anything involving white.

Usually you would use white to see everything, and you would use red for better night time vision. It just makes sense especially if you have maps lights and dome lights that can all change from red to white, that turning all lights on would do all white, but when turning on just a single light should make it red.

That was my bad. Sorry! You clearly said you'd like a separate switch, and I can definitely see how that could come in handy.
