Custom LED Map and Dome lights

Gotta turn it off and back on again, maaan. This is trouble shooting 101.

 

Mine are from the recent drop last week too. I manually turn them off or on goes to white open the door close the door they always go back to white. I would think if it’s a fuse they wouldn’t work at all yeah ?

 

No, this is the initial batch. I still need to put a ticket in for my stuck one.

 

Meso released the "1.0" 3G Dual Color Map Lights in September, 2021 (top of photo). The "2.0" 3G Dual Color Map Lights appeared in March, 2022 (bottom of photo). The PCB was reworked between 1.0 and 2.0 with the most obvious difference the removal of the large white Panasonic TQ2SA latching relay.

The relay caused intermittant "double press" switching problems experienced by @daveeasa, @CAG Gonzo, me and others. These were annoying but never prevented switching colors with the ignition on or off, unlike the voltage sensitive "remove the diode bridge" problem documented earlier. As David said, NBD on the double press.

Meso reworked the PCB in 2.0 to eliminate the manual relay and instead created a more reliable digital switch. In my experience, the annoying "double press" problem vanished with this fix. However, removal of the latching relay also eliminated the ability of the device to remember the set color: unlike 1.0, the 2.0 maps ALWAYS revert to white when transitioning from an OFF to an ON state.

I am sensitive to bright white light and really enjoyed having the 1.0 map lights turn on red by default. This is not possible with 2.0 as the lights resort to the interrogation room 5500K white when turned on, regardless of their color when they were turned off.

For this reason I won't be purchasing the 2.0 version. Perhaps @MESO would consider providing a hack to modify the 2.0 PC board to make red the default turn-on color.

I wonder how these boards differ from the tundra version. Single press and stay to the existing color position.

 

Super informative. Thank you. Wish I would have known this before buying a set from the new batch. Red map lights are pretty useless (defeats the purpose) if you have to cycle through white when they first turn on (your night vision is shot).

This is great information. I wish I'd known it before buying the V2, but a work around is apparently in the works. I'd be more than willing to pay shipping back to CA to have mine updated to the V1 specs.

 

I’m with the guy that started the post, I definitely wouldn’t want mine turning back on in a different color than I have set them to. Specifically for me I am a early morning hunter and the entire reason why I got red lights is so I don’t have a dilation of my eyes prepping once I’m on the hunt site so I can better adapt to the dark. I definitely would not want mine auto setting back to white for that reason. But at the same time the white is really nice when you’re actually wanting to use the dome light for something like looking for something in your car at night or reading something

 

Yes, I totally agree with you. My "why would this matter" comment wasn't in reference to the automatic reset.

 

bought the v2 ultimate dome light and it does not fit flush it bulges due to the white box on the back, I have contacted Meso customer service but just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue and if there is a fix for it. thanks

 

Are the dual colored lights still in production?

Anybody with an SR5 (light grey interior) painted their light trim to match? Curious what paint would match best.

 

The map lights are in stock if anything. There was a recent batch that was made and the dome light got sold out.
