    Hello Everyone.

I recently swapped out my stock Toyota Tonneau Cover for a Gator FX Hard Tri-Fold Cover. The new cover works great and I love it's low profile. However now I have exposed gaping holes from the stock Protectors (Bed Rail Caps?) that had the pegs and hardware for the stock Tonneau cover, which is now allowing water into the bed with the new cover closed. How can I fix this problem?

I've tried searching these forums and haven't found much outside of trying to swap used uncut ones with someone. Please forgive me if this has been posted before and I missed it.

    Also I've tried looking online for after market Protectors/Bed Rail Caps but haven't been able to find any that fit my truck. Closest I've found was on the Parts.Toyota.com site was a listing for the Truck Bed Side Rails listed under the Part #66249B here;

    https://parts.toyota.com/a/Toyota_2...6727671/REAR-BODY-SIDE-PANEL/674470-6554.html

But that just shows the metal rails. I need the plastic caps that snap into the top of the bed's walls. What shall I do? Shall I just fill the holes with weatherstripping, or EVA foam & silicone, and hope for the best? What have you done to resolve this issue?

    Thank you for reading.

You need a pair of OEM bed rail covers that cover the of the bed.

Get new OEM ones or jerry rig the holes with plastic and silicone....????

If you swapped with a Tacoma, ask for his side pieces. EDIT sorry YOU have old side pieces

    Good luck.

How big are the holes? Is it feasible to have a cap 3d printed? There's a guy on here who makes 3d printed parts. I don't recall his name though....

I am guessing they're around 4-5"x2'? I've attached a photo of them with the new cover on for further reference.

If you still have the stock cover you can sell it to someone who wants it. The person who wants it will also happen to need your bed rail caps. So, you can swap bed rail caps with that person and then boom, you have the parts you need, you make a little cash, and the other person gets the parts they need.

If you were closer, I buy your old OEM cover and swap the bed rail covers. I'm sure you can find someone that we buy our OEM and swap covers.

When I got my 2017 they gave me the full original (uncut) one plastic covers along the cutted one with the cover installed. I thought that was neat. Gave them back when lease was over because I ordered a new one with the new lease (my spouse made a hole in the old one so wanted a new one with the new lease.

Ao yeah, if you sell it you can swap with the dude you're selling to.

You you mind me asking why you changed cover?

If you have any salvage yards around you, you could possibly find a set on a crashed vehicle. I am not ever sure that they have salvage yards anymore. I bought a used OEM cover from a guy, and he swapped out my rail caps with his as others have said.

The low profile looks great. I'm in the market for a cover. Is the Gator FX Hard Tri-Fold Cover superior in quality to the stock Toyota cover?

Wow that's a great option! I wish my dealer did this when I bought my truck!

I swapped covers because mine is a little sun faded from parking outside for almost 4 years, and I wanted something with a lower profile for a sleeker look. The old one was also kinda heavy to fully remove when needed for hauling larger loads.

So far it's pretty pretty good! Reviews have been good too. It's nice a rigid and much lighter. The install was pretty easy too. The only downside is that it's rail it comes will completely blocks my bed's rail, making it so I unable to use the adjustable tie down cleats. I would have to remove the Gator's rails to use them again. But I used my bed more like a trunk, so it's not a big deal to me.

That's very kind of you to offer, thank you. This is something of consideration for sure.

I had the same issue. I went from a factory Toyota installed tonneau to a UnderCover UltraFlex tonneau and had 3 large gaps between the bed rail and rubber gasket. Since I own a 3D printer I decided to create inserts. They fit flush to the gasket and are very tight fitting. I initially printed them in white because I liked the contrast and it matched my decals but they got dirty quickly. I printed a set of 6 in black last night and will install them tonight. I also added some text for no reason at all. They look rough since they still have they just came off the print bed and i didnt wipe the glue off.

any follow up? Did this help? I also find the front (towards tailgate) dips a bit since it doesn’t have plastic to grab onto
