2005 V6 TRD tacoma with no mods..was driving yesterday and engine shut down, no warning and no strange noises. engine turns over and the battery is strong. towed it home and checked for existing post. I have checked all the fuses under the dash and hood. I checked the C/OPN relay and it was good but went ahead and switched tit with the horn relay and no change. I am not sure how to check the fuel pump relay as it has 6 pins?

also saw a post that asked if they had any stumbling rough running issues beforehand because this could be a coil problem. I do have that issue but not sure why that would keep it from starting and don't know how to check if one of the col packs is bad?

saw a post where the guy tried starter fluid so I just did that and it started and ran for 15 seconds and cut off. so assuming fuel pump or the relay. could not here fuel pump while buddy tried to start it, but not sure when I was supposed to hear it...appreciate any help

Years ago…. it was a fuel pump relay that worked for my old ‘84. Maybe try that next. Good luck!

Sounds like the fuel pump may have failed but check Connector IB1 Pin 8 (Black/Red) behind the drivers side kick panel for signs of melting or burning.

If it looks good make sure you have power there during cranking, if you do then you have to go to the fuel pump.

It was the fuel pump. Couple lessons learned

.... those three fuel line disconnects are a pain. Took me probably 2 hours to get them separated. My tip is I ended up pulling them apart as much as possible and then put needle nose pliers between the larger part of the fitting and the ridge on the tubing and used it to pry them apart. Also used wd40.

Another tip is to label the fuel lines before removing them from the top of the fuel pump given that the fuel pump fittings will accept either hose. Probably should label the line at the disconnects as well.

Last tip is to make sure you really have gas in the tank no matter what the fuel gauge says. My buddy told me he went through the process of changing the fuel pump and was unable to empty the gas from the tank for some reason and the gauge showed 1/4 of a tank. When he got the tank off he found out that it was empty

Wish I had a tip for removing the large fitting on top the tank because it's a pain as well

    Thanks
