Cut or Bend...Removing UCA Bolt

Bend. I used a set of pilers. Worked perfectly. And was able to bend everything back once done. Looked like it never even happened

 

Suspension goes on before the body i think.

 

I figure as much but then ask...why not place the bolt the opposite way to begin with? Oh well

 

They design autos to assemble quickly. The line counts in dollars per second. There is always a reason but sometimes the reason is "oh crap, what about the...".

I haven't installed mine yet but I plan to bend and pry.

Really simple, probably easier than cutting and replacing and definitely cheaper than buying new bolts!

 

Another reason (though I believe ease of manufacturing is probably the main one) is that if the nut comes off, the bolt is angled so that it won't slip out. When the bolt is placed backwards, if the nut comes off, then there is a greater chance of the bolt working its way out, with the assistance of gravity. Now the chances of the nut loosening up is quite slim...

 

I bent mine as well

 

might have to cut the bolts if they are rusted to hell...
but bending doesn't require additional purchase.

I'd attempt bending some sheet metal first.

Well....I bent! And as others said it was nothing! Very quick. Did it by myself all returned to normal more or less. Oh and I reinserted the bolt the exact same way. It was way easier to do that then getting it thought all the crap on the other side.

 

How is it easier to not put it in backwards ?

 

With the fuel lines and brake lines as well as the angle you have to take from bottom to top, it just went faster and easier going back the same way.

 

Not if you have to take it out next time , haha

 

True dat. But really each side was easy.

 

Passenger side went in backwards easy. Driver's side had a fuel line block in the way.

Thankfully, the part of the inner fender you bend is covered up by the rubber curtains.

 

Huh , I don't remember having an issue , but it was a couple years ago

 

There are some build variations from truck to truck. On my truck, there was almost enough room. In hindsight, I may have been able to get the driver's side bolt in backwards if I cut a few threads off the bolt.

 

Bend it and then put the bolts back in the way they came out.
