Yep still in for one, guess jump on the bandwagon and go plain. The big honking beasts I have now work OK on the grill grates for the gasser but are too wide for the curves on the kettle.

Is there an advantage of wood over metal for a scraper?

If you're talking the ones that have the metal brush on them. Ya after I read some stuff on what happened to people when they stuck to the grates then ended up in food and being swallowed I never used one again.

Yup. I refuse to use those. My dad always used those growing up. Last time I was home I threw his out and replaced it with a wood one. Although he just moved to Virginia now so he won't be doin much grillin anymore

I've read that too. I meant the metal scraper on the end of some brushes.

    scrappers.jpg

I use a metal griddle scraper once in awhile in the beginning of a cook to clear large chunks of leftovers off. Works pretty good on the grillgrates which are flat on top. But for the round grates on the kettle and most grills which are round in shape a metal scraper only touches the very top of the grates which leaves food hanging off the sides of them.

The wooden paddles conform to the surface you scrape as long it is hot enough and burns through the wood. The paddle on the right is the one I use for grillgrates and soon will conform enough that it will get down in the Valleys. Have used it on the kettle grill at times so a bit messed up, but works.

The paddle on the left is for my kettles and WSM. It is a bit wide so I often tilt it to get it all the way to the edges of those grates. Which is why the burn in is uneven. I could take the jigsaw to it and trim it up. Only have a couple thousands of dollars worth of woodworking tools around here. Nah.. I will pay wilcam47 for a brand new one that I could make myself for a couple of dollars LOL. Time is money and I would rather pull a handle on the reloading bench in my spare time.
