Yep, definitely rips. Being plated is nice, definitely looking forward to connecting trails and all that. Though I don't expect to be on the freeway with the thing. Been trying to plan a dual sport trip down the eastern Sierras with a few friends. But we need a non riding friend to drag all the camping gear, lol.

I'd feel bad about hijacking this thread, but it's your thread, lol

I'm hijacking my own thread lol. I could talk about dirt bikes and motorcycles for days... almost as long as I could talk about 1st gens haha.

I'm sure being plated is nice. I mean me and my buddies will ride on the road to the trail illegally, but I wanna be able to show up to work/class on my bike. Dreams right there.

Been thinking about using one of those 3rd party companies to get street registration. https://streetohv.com/Vehicle-Plating-Services-c37390702

I would do the inner and outer tie rods as well before alignment.

Everything else in the front end has been pretty much replaced within the past year. Inner / outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints, sway bar end links, shocks, UCAs, steering rack bushings, CV axles, list goes on. I'm hoping that this will be my last big suspension job. (aside from new coils for the 5100s)

I was the same way with mine. By the time I finished doing all of the work my IFS needed I looked at it and said "damn, for as much as I spent on that over the last year I could have done a SAS."

I don't plan to commute on it. Just to connect trails and 100% not have to worry about whateverthehell is going on with the red/green sticker thing here in Cali. Looking at the cost difference between the XC and the EXC, it really wasn't that much different (new). These Keep Throwing Money's (KTM) are expensive to start out, so a few hundred buck to make sure I don't get hassled while connecting a trail or whatever, it's easy.

At least with what I'm used to here in Cali, those 3rd party plating places always seem kinda shady. I know plenty of folks in law enforcement; my brother is State OHV law enforcement, so those people that find "loopholes" are really just getting that stuff from DMVs who don't really care to check that kind of thing. Like, they "know a guy" at a particular DMV... If it were actually legit, anyone could just walk in to any DMV and get a plate.

Easier to just get a plated bike.

Yeah you’re probably right. I don’t have a massive desire to ride on the road, I just think it would be awesome to wake up in the morning before a long day and go “I get to ride my bike this morning!”

And trust me. KTMs are expensive as hell. That bike runs great now but I’m scared of more problems arising. Debating selling it for a 2t…

Yeah, again, I'm speaking from Cali, where the laws are, for better or worse, more restrictive. Other states like Utah I think will plate just about anything. I guess all you need is a mullet and a tooth to get a plate for your quad over there...

It's cool man, maybe one day you'll get a bike like us cool kids.

But if you want to feel better about yourself, just go over to the 3rd gen section...:D

I'm in my 40's and brittle, too.

Here is evidence I don't know how to ride a dirtbike. I've had friends say I need to just get a quad.

one diablo carbide reciprocating blade cut all 4 of my cam bolts off. and a rip for getting sleaves out instead of making a mess with fire is to use a hole saw the right size to cut all the rubber out. you can then use the reciprocating saw again to cut a slit in the outer sleave. it will push right put after.
