I installed a new head unit years back along with new speakers and even built a custom sub box for the back. For whatever reason I started thinking about how I left the stock wiring and am confused on what to do...it sounds great how it is but I feel like I'm robbing power from the 2 ways in the front doors by leaving the stock tweeters hooked up. I have been doing a lot of reading but with all the different answers I am more confused then before ha . I could take the door apart but all the wires are bundled up anyways and I'm sure someone knows for sure what's happening. Are the speakers I installed getting a straight full spectrum signal and I can/should just cut the tweeter out? Or do I need to find the wires coming from the deck and extend those directly to the 2 ways?

Are the stock tweeters still playing music? If so, then technically it is "stealing" some power from your two-ways. The only way to tell if it's noticeable would be to disconnect them.

Personally I would have disconnected them from the beginning, because chances are the tweeters in your 2 way have a much better sound.

My guess would be you're not losing enough to matter. I had the installer hook up my door speakers and amp both with and without the tweets and I couldn't tell when he had the tweets on unless I leaned right next to it. If you're just using the head unit to power them then I wouldn't even bother.

Thanks for the replies. Yes they are still playing when you listen close. Seems like not a lot though but ya I got some nice 6x9's up front so I'm sure they would be happy with even just 4 more watts or whatever the tweets are taking. And just to clarify, if I cut the tweeter off right up at its connection the speakers I put in are receiving a straight signal from the deck? I don't want a signal from the crappy stock crossover or something or not have it be getting all the highs.

Either that or just remove the wire from the tweeter, I believe it is a clip that goes onto the tweeter. No need to cut it if you may want to return to stock down the road.

Thanks for the help. Wanted to double check before I take it off find out it wouldn't make crap difference. I disconnect it and let you know what happens. It might make a difference not having a separate high power amp compared to running the 20 or so watts out of the deck
