Update: It was the inside brake pad that has worn down to the squeaker that was making the sound...

2013 with 121,000 Klm. Sorry for the poor audio, but you can hear a higher pitch squeal like a metal angle grinder sound.

Inside brake rotor looks clean.... dust shield doesn't seem to be bent...

There is def a bit more friction vs the passenger side.

Bumps don't seem to affect it.

    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jay

Another area is brakes - if worn is one of the squealers (metal tab that contacts rotor) starting to hit?
Doubt CVs unless a boot is broken and grease all over so water got in. At 180k miles (290k km) mine are still OK.
Wheel bearing/hub possible and search on how to determine as many posts.

Thanks guys, breaks are new so don't think it's that. Will research bearings.

    Cheers,

That doesn't sound like a wheel bearing, bearings growl and rumble and you can hear it inside the cab easily

Check the backing plate, it might be rubbing against the rotor

If the brakes are new, and it’s not a wheel bearing then check if the dust shield is rubbing on the rotor, just bend it back with your hands

I might try taking off brake caliper to eliminate that. But brakes pads have lots of life still...

Have you looked at the dust shield yet? Try pulling it back away from the rotor

Just took caliper off and it's the inside pad that's worn to the brake squealer.

Now just need to figure out how to separate the pads enough to get back on... Faxk.

The caliper pistons have to be pushed back in their bores to accept new thick pads

With the caliper installed you can put 2 prybars or large flat screwdrivers between the pad and rotor and push the pistons back in the calipers.

with the caliper off the truck you need a pad spreading tool or some big adjustable pliers like a plumber would use.. or a c-clamp

If one pad is thick and one pad is thin then the pistons are probably stuck/seized. Might need a reman or new caliper

Take caliper off. Place brake pad onto piston and use a c clamp to push piston back into caliper

Did you install new brakes or did a shop do it?

A shop did it. I'll call them tomorrow and find out how many KLMs ago I had them done.

I would. Might be some splanin that needs to be done. If the work was legit...might need to look at your driving style and take it easy on those brakes.

    All stock, baby!
Was the pad wear on inner vs. outer consistent? Since the Tacoma has fixed calipers, the pistons push from both sides and if all four are working the same the pads should wear evenly. If not, the caliper likely has an issue.
