I’ve been chasing a phantom hum, vibration. Wheel bearings don’t have play. Carrier bearing replaced but other u joints are tight. Rear diff, trans fluids changed. Under truck looking around. The cv axels have a fair amount of play where they go in. Boots are intact, no clicking noises when turning. Are the axels supposed to have that much play? Is this potentiality the problem?

For what it’s worth, I’ve never felt play when checking for bad wheel bearings on my truck. But they’re always the culprit.

Could also be your needle bearing. Search for ECGS Bushing.

It’s an ‘08 TRD with 130,000. I tow a small boat ( occasionally) and a small landscape trailer with mower also occasionally. It goes down the road pretty good. Doesn’t pull or make weird noises. Frame looks good. Had 1 front wheel bearing replaced but it was obviously bad. This hum has been with the truck since Ive had it. Thought it was tires at first. That wasn’t it. Grasping at straws

Update: most likely not cv axel/ needle bearing. It was suggested on a YouTube video that I try putting it in 4 hi. If that stops the vibration it’s probably it. Did not stop the vibration. My truck is not lifted just stock TRD. Going to take a closer look at wheel bearings. Rear ones look like a real pain in the @&$ to replace. Might just go all the way around with them.
