I just installed the 2.5 oem performance King coilovers on my 97 yesterday afternoon and like 2 hours after, I noticed grease all over the place on the passenger side. And after cleaning up a bit I saw the spot where the cv axle boot ripped. My question is, are the angles on my cv axle that bad that it caused that or are the boots just so old and weathered. Anyways what I’m trying to figure out is should I go to my nearby oreillys, Napa, AAP and get a replacement there or are the angles bad enough that I should go with the CVJ axles?

And here’s one of my driver side
    E3CC53FD-15E3-4160-ADBF-A22E26058348.jpg
To me the angles don’t look too bad but idk, and I would think they would’ve ripped at a different spot if it was the angle.

Only got to drive them back to my house and out to the store before the axle boots ripped so I didn’t get to really test them

If those are 23 year old boots, I'd start with a new boot kit for both sides.

Did you adjust your kings at all or did you just bolt them on? I put mine in the way they came and it gave me like a 2 inch lift

My settings are at zero, NO LIFT.
Zero will still give you a 2” lift with the Kings.

Sorry the drivers side is screwed 1.5 turns or threads of lift to get rid of the taco lean I had.

Those outer boot fins are rubbing, angles are too severe. I have the same Kings and initially had mine at 2.5" of lift but kept blowing boots as well. Diff drop did nothing and was a waste of money. Best thing you can do is lower the lift bit by bit until the boots don't rub anymore.

You should be able to slide a piece of paper between each of the boot fins, if you can't then they are touching and will rub apart in no time.

Yep, just loosen the collar and turn it with the big punch that King provides

Don't loosen the collar too much, don't want that screw to come out. Also helps if you spray the threads down with wd 40.

The UCA can get in the way and make it kind of hard to access the holes for the punch but it's workable

My truck did not come with a lift, but the Kings creates a lift of 2” for me,
My boots have a small angle as shown and do hit at the top worn spot on the spring.

This is stock height for both sides that still gave me 2” lift and the drivers side to get rid of taco lean.
I actually had the company seller adjust them for my setup for free before they were shipped

Here’s mine at 2.5. I don’t think they are too bad but not great any more angle and ide probably lower or install my diff drop. Yours are definitely going to wear out

3" OME, 883 coils, Nitros, AAL, 07 FJ Trail team wheels, K&N CAI, Tundra brake upgrade.
    All of this.

my OME with 883’s did the same thing. Re-boot and run it or swap CVS and keep those as spares.

Probably created lift anyway cause of the 600# springs, but the boots rub the spring itself? That's odd I don't think I had that issue. I do have the somewhat common issue where the banjo bolt on the caliper grazes the lower part of the coilover. Only at full lock then stuffed, but one time it actually loosened the banjo bolt and I lost some brake fluid.
