CV axle hitting

    Hey guys, I have a 01 tacoma on bilstein 5100's, with eibech coils as my lift, with a 1'' diff drop. I noticed the other day that my cv boots were blow from age I guess. Replaced the axles, got it off the lift and went to test drive it and noticed a bad vibration, from the front it. Put it back up on jacks and noticed that one side, the CV was bottoming out on itself. I would go to free spin the tire, but the CV would catch. It likes the inner joint needs to be shortened so that the shaft doesn't hit the lip while it rotates. I didn't know if there was a way to do this, or a way to drop the CV angles even more so its not in such a bind..

    Can you clarify what this means?

    At full droop (on the jack) you might see this but you shouldn't at ride height unless you have an extreme amount of lift.

    Yes, I do have a coil spacer on the front for another inch of lift.

    I made a 2'' diff drop kit at a buddies shop, and that still didn't do anything for the CV angles.

    Not surprised your new, aftermarket CV axles are binding. With the Eibach coils (hopefully) on the lowest setting on the 5100s, you are looking at 3+ inches of lift already. And you have added a spacer on top of that? That is nuts.

    That is way too much lift for the IFS design. Get that spacer outa there and add a lot of weight to the front end (plate bumper, winch, skids) to bring the front end down some more so you wont ruin the rest of your suspension.

    Yeah, i figured that I knew that it was a lot strain, I just didn't think that the spacer would be that much stress on the front end. The 5100's are on the lowest setting, I was just hoping to go with some more lift. Im guessing if I wanted to add another inch, a body lift would be the safest way to go about it.

    You are limited to about 3" of lift on an IFS front end, unless you completely convert to long travel. Stuffing more lift components under there won't do you any good. Once it's maxed out, you're not getting any taller, just majorly sacrificing ride quality and suspension component longevity.
