I recently lifted my 09 DCLB 4x4 2.5 inches and quickly noticed my CV Axle inner boots are not for much longer. Slid the boots down and clamped so the fins aren’t rubbing, but it’s starting to fail where it was stretched near the clamp as well so time for repair. 123xxx on the truck so I’m assuming original boots. Axles are coming out to swap in ECGS bushing and reboot the axles. I plan to do a proper boot slide mod when replacing the boots (cutting inner section of old boot off and clamping it down to extend new boots) but where I keep going back and forth is whether to go with OEM boots or swap the inners with CVJ Reman brand high angle boots or similar. My worry is with the OEM boots since they’re not made to be stretched, I could have premature failure at the ends where it’s clamped. Anyone have some real mileage feedback on either of these options and can chime in to help make the decision for me? Pros and cons of each?

If you’re rebooting, might as well get the extended boots.

So the extended boots are obviously clamped down further on the shaft and don’t utilize the shaft indent to clamp. Are these just clamped down without anything holding them in place other than the clamp or is the boot slide mod used here to help hold it?

Oetiker clamps typically wont slide around. They're pretty secure.
